I'd have decorated the car with some contents from the trailer and then used the team to move the vehicle. But, that's just me.

Little, bitty compacts can be lifted up and moved, given enough people.
Now, where you tell us to put the thing might be a bit more challenging.....

Why not just put up rope or cones around the trailer? I don't think most people do such things like parking so close on purpose, it is probably more of an ignorance thing. I think by marking a perimeter around the trailer would solve the problem. Just a thought.

Well I'm bringing my Generator Motor seeking Hellfire missiles....after Wilson's Creek and listening to the fricken RV's and their all night generators I had to come up with a solution.....this will be more fun than hunting mis-matched colors for Xmas light decorations with a modified choke 12 ga with #10 shot. You know, when your neighbors can't make up their minds whether they're going to have all white lights or all colored lights....and we help them make the decision....

    Friends,

Please pardon the interruption here to the general event run up information.

I'm even taking my moderator bonnet off. There now.

This is my official pre-event Rant.

I made a little speech back in January at the national meeting of the Blue Gray Alliance. I would normally assume that all commanders present at that meeting comunicated to their folks the various information they received. My phone and mail in recent days tells me this is not the case.

First, here, linked straight to the event website, are the standards for the Civilian ONLY Town of Purdy:
    http://shiloh150.org/civilian_town

There are a number of rules there, but there are a couple that have specific application to the military side of this event. It would be a good idea to read them if you have any idea of living in the Town of Purdy.

The short version is this : NO MILITARY MAY LIVE IN THE TOWN OF PURDY. Period. End of Story.

The Town of Purdy is integral to planned scenarios during the event. The presence of the 'wrong side' at any given moment is essentially 'scenario busting'--something that all good military participants should understand as a disruptive influence during an event, a rogue action that can destroy months of planning in a matter of moments.

If military reenactors set up camp in the Town of Purdy, and emerge from their tent in military uniform during the course of the event, they will be required to move their camp from the Town immediately. As Civilian Governor for the Blue Gray Alliance, I have the backing of both overall commanders in enforcing this. Further, I have delegated to the Town Mayor, Robert Orrand, full authority to make decisions as to who may live in the Town, and to enforce all the Town rules.

If you are military and unable to camp with your campaign unit due to physical infirmity, the place for you is in 'family garrison/mixed camps'. There are two of them. Federal 'mixed camps' are behind Sutler Row. Confederate 'mixed camps' are beside Confederate Parking.

If you are civilian and unable to walk distance--well, its up to you to judge your limitations and act accordingly. Its a long way to the parking lots from Purdy. Its a long way to Sutlers from Purdy. We are about as far back in the property as one can get. THERE ARE NO SHUTTLES RUNNING TO THE TOWN OF PURDY FROM ANYWHERE IN THE SITE. Further, the Town of Purdy closes to vehicle traffic at NOON on Friday.

There is no 'handicapped parking' in or near Purdy. The area is closed to vehicle traffic from noon on Friday until the event is over on Sunday afternoon. There are no exceptions. If you wish to go the Dance, the parking lot, Sutler Row, or anywhere else on the site, you will have to walk to get there.

Either that, or bring your own period carriage and team and use them to travel. The historical record shows that can also be a bad idea with an army around.

Rant ends here. For the Moment. Thank You for your time.

And as a followup from the Mayor - Folks have been used to having their own fires at reenactments. This will NOT be the case in Purdy. We have too many children and too much troop movement to have fires all over the place. It is a safety issue for us. Shared fires will be enforced. And besdies safety, this is for social discourse as would have been done during the period. Townfolks need to discuss the what is happening around them. Troop movement from both armies - indeed, right through our beloved Purdy.
And the social interaction is great as well. Individual fires will be filled in.

Oh - and any commanders reading this - as Purdy may be under either Federal or Confederate control at any time, your men visiting in Purdy should come in as civilians. Put on that overshirt you have been hiding in the closet. Look like a farmer and you will be fine. One never knows when a patrol may come through Purdy arresting troops of the other army. What does a lowly Private say to his First Sergeant when he is marched back to camp under a white flag, weapons in the hand of the enemy? Or will his commander come into Purdy looking for his men, as they are languishing in the Purdy calaboose? And folks, it is not a pretty jail at all.

We want people to follow our guidelines and I plan on having fun, when possible, enforcing them. You just can't trust Fielding Hurst.

    Ma'am,

There were a couple of gals from Illinois at Twin Rivers, living in town. And if memory serves me correct, there was a lady from Springfield with several of her ... companions at Wilson's Creek. If'n a military type feller was to slip into Purdy and try to pay them a visit ...... Would he get hit with the get along stick?

    Your Friend,

    John

As Mayor, there will always be a LOADED 1855 double barrelled shotgun at the ready. As a Union sympathizer, I do not "cotton" to Secesh being in Purdy. It is not the STICK you need to fear, but the double load of buckshot in the Mayor's gun. (Oh - and Mrs. Hurst has been know to hide an 1849 pocket pistol under her hoops!)
