Default CW Reenacting in the Great Plains?

I've been telling a buddy of mine how much I enjoy reenacting out in Ohio and he's considering getting into it himself. He's asked if there are any units near to South Dakota. He'd be willing to drive to any of the neighboring states for a good unit. Any advice or information would be appreciated.

I spent a few years out in Rapid City SD at Ellsworth AFB. I volunteered at Fort Laramie, WY and did events with the 3rd US Vol "Galvanized Yankees" at Fort Casper, WY. I even went up to Fort Union trading post in ND. and to Fort Hartsuff in NE or Grand Island, NE. There is even a Gettysburg SD that had an annual event. The Frontier Army of the Dakotas had a lot going on too. I had a great time out there but the only down side is the long drives to events.

I was also a member of General Miles Marching and Chowder Society which portrays Indian Wars Infantry.

I really wanted to do gold rush living history in the Black Hills but at the time there was no venue for it.

    David,

I am currently with the old Co. I "Galvanized Yankees" that Bruce B. was apart of, except the units have evolved over the years to more civilian living history. There are very few military reenactors here in Wy. I am trying to find any interest in expanding the 11th Ohio Cavalry representation. It is nice to see former members of Company I.

For Mel Glover's friend, we would like to invite him to any event around Casper, Buffalo to see how he likes it. Also, to any nearby units, we have revived the "Frontier Christmas" at Fort Caspar which was a great success this past December. We are looking to invite as many military reenactors as possible. We have already set the date this year for December 1st 2012.

Let me know if anyone is interested in doing events with us around the Wyoming area. We are always open to any interested party.

Thanks for the information guys. I'll pass it all along. I also met up with an artillery unit based at Ft. Phil Kearny in Wyoming and seem like good folks too.

    Thanks for your help!
