Default How do you guys load your weapons in battle

What is the procedure for loading in battle. for muskets and revolvers.

Do you just put black power and the percussion cap ? or is there something else you guys use.

I really just want to know how you guys make the smoke and sound of acctually firing?

    Default The Proper Loading Procedures

    Mr. Shallal,

If loading procedure interests you, I'd suggest looking through the various Manuels of Arms. Baxter's, Gilham's, McClellan's, Hardee's, and Casey's all provide the proper steps of loading a musket for the infantry soldier.

Here are two links for the manuels which have been posted online.

As it would appear that you are new to this hobby, I'd strongly advise against experimenting on your own unless one of us helps you out. It's not worth finding out after you lose your hearing.

    Load in nine times:

Normally, with opposing lines on the field, you will skip steps five, six, and seven - the use of rammers is usually frowned upon.

When you get to step number eight (prime), give the weapon a smack in the area of the lock with the heel of your hand to help seat the powder charge. Do this before installing a new percussion cap.

You guys are really healping with how you load for a real battle. But i'm asking what procedures you do while reinacting, so that your not actually killing people.

    Default Re: Loading

We follow the manual with the exception of using a lead ball. It is as simple as that.

Are you for real? I know this isn't the AC forum but let's get serious here. If I were a moderator I'd close this thread immediately.

A lot of reenactorlings will aim their rifles about 14 feet over the heads of their opponents. That insures that any casualties will be at least 2 miles away.
