Default Reenactor for 20 years looking for a new unit

Hello to all my name is Jason, I'm currently 35 years old and have been reenacting since I carried the drum when I was 16. Left the hobby this past year due to a new child as well as the unit I 've poured my blood sweat and money into for close to 20 years has turned into a political nightmare where everyone wants stripes so to speak. several long term members have left the hobby totally. That being said I just want to join another unit and help out in anyway possible. I left the unit as a sergeant, I would love to remain that rank if possible but would be willing to discuss. I currently reside in Baltimore Maryland.

    Thanks Jason

    Default Reenactor 20 years

Jason, I am a member of the 14th Tennesee, and outfit in Hagerstown, Md, but members from all over MD. and VA. They are a great group of guys who are afilliated with the CMF, and are quite serious about what we do. We are predominately a Confederate unit, but we also do Union as well. We do LH on a regular basis at Antietam, Manassas, Monacacy, Gettysburg, a program each year at the Shriver House in Gettysburg, as well as, reenactments on both large and small scale. If interested drop me a pm and I can put you in touch with our Captain, Sandy Andrews

    Hello Jason,

Union or Confederate? Do look around, but before you decide, consider the 3rd US Regular Infantry, Co. K (http://www.buffsticks.us/) if you're looking for a Union unit.

We have a solid core of members from around the Washington-Baltimore area, and we are one of the few units that has actually been growing in recent years. We attend both mainstream and progressive events (we had a blast at both Manassas and Balls Bluff). And I can tell you this honestly, having been in units like the one you're leaving, that the 3rd US is remarkably free of that political stuff--if they weren't, I wouldn't be there.

At a recent Harper's Ferry event, the park ranger went out his way to tell us that we were one of the best units they have ever had participating in their programs. We have placed first or second in drill competitions and have several former members of the Army's current 3rd US in our ranks. We are based out of Ft. Ward in Alexandria (http://alexandriava.gov/FortWard).

I realize this is short notice, but if you'd be interested in attending our Annual Meeting tomorrow at Fort. C.F. Smith in Arlington, Va. shoot me a PM. Our commanding officer Lt. Jason Eckhart and a few others are also members of this forum.

The Southern Division has a few groups that join together and do campaigner Confederate events. I have been with them at 1st Manassas and Leesburg (Ball's Bluff) and had a great time. There are a few events this year that they are doing in VA, MD and PA. You can look at the website: http://www.southerndivision.org/ I have also done some events with the 5th Regiment ANV, both were at Manassas and are going to be working together in the future. If you are doing Federal then look at the above posts. Look around and find a unit that you feel confortable with. Please don't give up this wonderful hobby because you had a bad experience...... I've seen too much of that. I am seeing alot of units working together to make the 150th anniversary a great experience for all involved. I am doing an Asst Surgeon impression and the medical department can always use help with hospital stewards and ambulance corps if you just want to come out and try an event. I also do living histories, school displays and small events with an artlillery group that can always use help. I am fortunate that I found units that allow me to do the events I want, at different levels of bivouacking. and really no political nonsense. Look around and try a few units, you will fit in somewhere.

All the above listed groups are great, and have to add if you want to do dual impression- blue and gray, check out the Chesapeake Volunteer Guard....

Consider the 56th PA. Theyre in the 3rd brigade of the USV. 8-10 on the field at any event. mix of guys from 16 to 65. No women attend, even as civilians, dog tents at most events, coolers, etc, kept to a minimum and hidden, no dining flys, large wall tents, chairs, tables, etc. and all of the crap you see in other camps. generally indiv mess......However, they're not real hard corps...no 5 mile marches, but present a good impression, just right for me at age 52!
do a mix of Living History at Gburg, Anteitam, and the reanactments that the USV does. About 4 guys live near Baltimore, another 8-10 spread out in PA.

also dont forget the 1st MD infantry- part of National Regiment- located around Baltimore, do LH at Fort McHenry, Anteitam, Gburg, as well as the reanactments
    check out their web pages
