I'm looking at buying a musket but got some questions... Is Armi Sport better or Euroarms? Also which gun is better the '61 springfield or the '53 enfield? Thank you, Jacob Dunn

I am not too picky about either if it’s a good value. Look on this forum to see if its defarbed that’s always a plus. Something also to think about is that a new black powder gun looks very used in an extremely short period of time. Plus it helps the authenticity under normal circumstances, yet a 150 year old gun doesn't look right usually when it was new during the war. I have an Armi Sport Enfield with some defarbing and a Euroarms Cook and Bros Carbine I have no complaints about either. The wide consideration is that the Enfield is much quicker and easier to clean and also less likely to foul than the '61 Springfield due to the Springfield’s design of ignition angles. Either gun by either maker is a good choice, as well as a '42 Springfield. Most will favor the Euroarms though. I would stay away from the Indian made guns though especially if you want to actually shoot the gun live. Watch the forum you might find something in the $400-500 range, or other reenactors that you are around sometimes know of ones for sale for even less, it definatly beats $675 and up new.
Well Euroarms is out of business, if that weighs into the equation for you. Frankly neither one is particularly
accurate in terms of historical feature accuracy. If you decide on a US 1861, you have to keep the flash
channel and percussion cone very clean to avoid the misfires for which the reproductions are famous.

I just completed my first year in the hobby and experimented with both a springfield and enfield and found the enfield was much more user friendly concerning cleaning and misfires, the veterans in my unit mostly carry enfields.
also, the prefered maker in my unit is armisport
