Calling all Buglers (and Fifers and Drummers!)
If you are a Civil War musician-Bugler, fifer or Drummer, the TAPS 150 event at Berkeley Plantation (June 22-24, 2012) will be THE event of the 150th Civil War cycle for music. There will be concerts by military bands on Friday night, the Federal City Brass Band on Saturday night which will add to the musical favor of the event as well as fife and drum music and the sounds of bugles. Buglers will participate in skirmish drills with troops, sound all the camp calls over the weekend, perform in two concerts in the Rose Garden, be part of the dress parades including a review by President Lincoln (who will be accorded proper honors on the drums and bugles), and be part of the official 150th anniversary sounding of the call on Saturday evening June 23.
The focal point of the weekend will be the re-dedication of the Taps 150 monument on Saturday June 23 at 1100. The monument, originally erected in 1969, will be formally re-dedicated in ceremonies on the grounds. Plus top Civil War buglers will be on hand to give workshops on CW performance practices and brass techniques.
