Butternut, there are loads of units in your area. Because of your location you have the benefit of being selective with units because there are many to choose from. Specifically what type of unit are you looking for, Campaigner, heavy camping, heavy history, family friendly, progressive, etc. I'm assuming infantry correct?

BN, Welcome to the house....perhaps a trip to the Saltville, VA reenactment this weekend would show you a few reb units.....see you there ! JW
As always, OBSVT, Joe Cress..... "General, if they put every man they have......on the field to approach me......just give me plenty ammunition.....I'll kill 'em all.....before they reach my lines."
Butternut,
If you are interested in artillery, we are about an hour from you. I am in the Knoxville area. We reenact, live fire and are horse drawn also. You can contact me at:

Well i am a commisioned officer in the army, so i am totally open to anythhing, the great thing is when you love this type of stuff so much everything sounds great...artillery infantry etc......Im in the infancy stage of this but for some reason artillery and infantry seems like it would be more up my alley...however i refuse to wear blue......at this point im fixed on cost of equipment ..just viewing the sutlery sites it appears the devils in the smalll items meaning nickels and dimes add up.....so anny info at this point is welcomed.....
Lots of good Confederate Cavalry in your area. The 3rd and 7th Tennessee are nearby.
Our unit is also artillery, do some horsedrawn, but also field a rifle line (dismounted cav style). We use all original guns, and have six registered for BGA shiloh. We always play gray. The unit is not hardcore, but has a very family friendly atmosphere. We are looking for more teamsters, wagons, horses, artillerymen, riflemen, etc. Check out our website freeman'sbattery.com. The only thing is, as we have young people and sometimes ladies in camp, we discourage ungentlemanly behavior, including excessive drinking.

this all sounds great
thank you all for your help
Butternut,
As my Captain mentioned above. We are located about an hour from Tri Cities. We are a Horse drawn unit. If Artillery is your interest and you fall in with us be prepared as we do work the guns a great deal at reenactments. Seems when the Captain gets his blood up we shoot and move alot. We were one of a couple of Horse drawn units at Manassas this year. We have multiple full scale guns and howitzers that we deploy through out the year at local South Eastern events as well as National. We are registered at Shiloh and Perryville next year.
Hope to hear from you.
