Default Odd Original British 1842 Pattern Musket $475 Shipped

Offered here is the following an odd 1842 Musket by Westley Richards. The butt stock has been professionally hollowed out the center in an oval. Why this was done is anyones guess but since this is a commercially made piece what the purchaser wanted they got. This musket has a hooked breech as well which is quite the oddity. The external metal has medium pitting on all surfaces making the markings hard to read. It does function well on both half and full cock and the bore is very good ( smoothbore). I believe, based on the pitting and the modified stock that this gun may have been used on a merchant ship. Either way it is a nice 1842 Pattern gun that did not come from Nepal. $475 shipped in Conus ( I will entertain reasonable offers and antique trades). I accept check, money order or discreet online payment. Thanks mikepatty4@cs.com

    Default Hole

Pretty neat. I suspect the hole was to reduce the weight.

Can you gget some better pictures of or tell me how the barrell is held to the stock? Looks like a tapered pin on the forearm?
