    Default Cannon Shoot

    Comrades,
I need reenactors for a Cannon/Machine gun shoot. The Date is 27-28 May 2011 in Friendsville TN. This is a Friday and Saturday, Memorial day weekend. Friendsville is 20 miles west of Knoxville TN, 10 miles off of I-40This will be the 3rd shoot. The last time we had 300 participants, and over 100 machine guns of various flavors. Everyone mentions the Knob Creek machine gun shoot where you go and watch the big boys shoot. I have been 6/7 times and have not fired a round. Here you get a chance to actually fire the weapons, MG42, Mp40 BAR etc. Rows and rows of them. This year they are expecting a PAK38 antitank gun and possibly a couple Stewart light tanks.
My part of the event is the Artillery. Last year we had 4 Civil War cannons, (3) 12 Pdrs and a 6pdr. Over 2 days we fired over 50 Rounds of full power service charged ammo at cars, vans, trucks, refrigerators, ovens etc etc. We fired canister and solid shot to our hearts content. If you have ever wondered what a CW cannon will do here is your chance.
The history part of this came about because of the large numbers of WWII reenactors in uniform. The event sponsor wants more uniformed CW personell for the gun crews. We have a battery here, but not enough to man 4 guns. We would prefer artillery experience, but this is not necessary. We are a CS unit, but US is fine. Here is a very weapons oriented crowd, that asks LOTs of questions. If you are an infantry unit that wants to come that is fine too. The more the merrier. You can camp on site or stay in a local motel. We are about an hour from Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge.
So if you would like to attend, please email me. Also let me know if you want to bring a cannon.

    Thank you,
    Steve Cameron

Before we get hit with multiple moderator alerts, we'll let this stand since it does go against the grain of our policy on non-CW period discussion/events but it does involve CW era cannonry. I'm putting a lock on it to keep out the extra commentary, but PM the poster if you have questions or desire more details.
