Default Lookinf for Embroiderd Officers Regimental Circlet

    Greetings,
I am looking for a set of Embroidered Officer's Infantry Circlets w/ a Regimental Number. I know that early on in the war they were worn. I've seen them 1st hand @ an Symposium for my Regiment's History that our commanding officer wore 2 Circlets Light blue background w/ gold embroidery and Regimental Number. Does anyone know where I may be able to obtain a set? My Captain has a set of Circlets w/ the Captains Bars for Late-War, it'd be nice to get him an Early-war set as well.

Thanks for all of your help.
    Best regards,
    Zak

    Zak:
Try Tim Sheads at S&S Sutler. I believe you are looking for an Officer's Infantry Embroidered Hat Insignia. Website below.

    Hope that helps.

Thats an interesting piece of material culture I've never come across. I know rank circlets were designed to be worn on the overcoat by officers after 1863 (those are carried by NJ Sekela in the insignia section of his website), but I've never seen or heard of circlets with the regimental number, other than that previously mentioned as a hat device.

These may have been worn on his dress fringe epaulets, but they were loose circlets. I had to question them myself as well, but seeing as he died in 1864 from malarial fever they weren't a Post-War addition or G.A.R. thing. Next time I see the gentleman that has them in his collection I'll try to get pictures!

I think you're right. Nick Sekela sent me a message saying that he believed they were the circlets from dress eppaulettes, and that makes much more sense. I don't know of anyone making those devices currently (other than the previously mentioned rank circlets from NJS), but a message to Nick Sekela may offer something, or Pat Craddock over on the AC forum who has had some custom giltwire and embroidery work done in the past.

Quartermaster's Shop offers them as well. I have a set for my epaulettes. They are Paki made and so, probably not up to NJS standards, but here is a link.
