    Default Diamond's 10th Kentucky

Hello. I'm looking for people in the east Kentucky area who may be interested in helping create at least a company-strength group (perhaps 10-15 men) to portray the 10th Ky Confederate cavalry (The Yankee Chasers) To my knowledge, there are no groups portraying this unit in the area, and many here have ancestors who fought in the 10th. I'll try to give a rundown of the idea with all pertinent details included.

Currently, I am first sergeant in an artillery group portraying the artillery attached to the unit during the war, and sometimes portray a captain in the 10th for the sake of having at least one cav guy in a cav regiment I was trained as a cav officer in TX, and if enough men join, I would be acting captain of the group. We would be acting in unison with the battery during reenactments in the area. We would more than likely be dismounted at most battles, so whereas cav training is a must, having a horse isn't right now. I understand the costs of owning a horse, and just had to sell mine for financial reasons

I don't want to end up so hardcore that we throw people out for not having handstitched haversacks, but I think it'd be nice to give a fairly accurate portrayal of the original unit.

I would like individuals who genuinely love the hobby and cavalry, and I believe the group, though portraying a good cav outfit on the field, should have a close camaraderie and family-oriented atnosphere in camp, with women and children welcome. I'm not big on the politics or favoritism sometimes found in the hobby. Promotions would be based on deeds, experience and dedication.

If I talk too much I might talk everyone out of it so I'm gonna shut up now. I anyone's interested, just PM me with info.

Default Yes David, there is a Diamond's…

and they are located in the Harrodsburg, Danville, Perryville area. Captain Barry Spurlin is their commander and they have 6 troopers and 6 civilian members. They could probably use someone with your spirit and ideas to get them more active. They only go to a few events a year.

I wish I could get involved with them, but there's no way I can travel that far for reenactments and meetings on a farmer's budget. I thought there may be someone somewhere representing the 10th, but there's no one in my neck of the woods, which is to say eastern Kentucky. I live in the Paintsville area, and reenact usually in a 150 mile radius, to include Middle Creek, Half Mountain, Goyandotte (sp?) and the like. The farthest I've been in my decade of infantry, cavalry and artillery is probably Wise VA. I would like to put a company together here to cover this area.

By the way, what company are they, so I can name mine accordingly? I don't wanna take another group's name. Given my past with some groups who don't exist anymore for various and sundry reasons, I should call it F Troop.

Default They come a little closer

Wildcat is where they will be, at least, a little closer to you. Just ask any of the cavalry down there and they'll direct you to the 10th.

Never been to Wildcat actually...they tell me it's a pretty good, decent-sized reenactment. When taking to the field with the battery, I can only go to the battles the group goes to. When I go independently as cav, I'm limited by my wallet as to how far I can go. I don't have many friends inside the hobby to catch a ride with...must be the period accurate smell in the tent after two days of reenacting.

I'm still looking for a few good men...anyone in east Kentucky wanna do cav? Any smaller cav outfits looking to conglomerate? I'm not hard to get along with. I'm not Dan Sickles or anything.

Just drop me a PM if you're interested.

Those who have been in the hobby for more than a few years have seen dozens of units like this, recruited through various means such as offering rank to everyone. This moderator's personal view is that the LAST thing this hobby needs is another unit of 6 people, commanded by a captain, and all are corporals or sergeants. Its unauthentic, and often unsafe. This forum will not be the place to arrange such organizations. I wish you luck in forming a unit, but not at the expense of historical accuracy and attempts at enticing people with "rank". Folks are welcome to contact the original poster via PM or email, but this thread is locked.
