I've seen many examples of painted infantry snare drums. The classic design has red hoops, a blue shell and an eagle with a union shield and a red banner in it's beak with the regiment information on it. I've not been able, however, to find any examples or descriptions of an painted drum for an artillery unit. I've read that the shell color would have been artillery red instead of infantry blue, which makes sense, but I'm not sure if that is true or not. Were they similar? Can anyone link an image or describe what an artillery snare would have looked like?
Thanks!
