SCAR (SE Coalition of Authentic Reenactors) will be forming a Federal, campaigner company for an adjunct at the Battle of Resaca.

Dates: May 14-16th, 2010

Unit Portrayed: 149th New York Volunteer Infantry (2nd Div., 20th Corps), Company B (unit history on seperate thread).

Activities: Ration Issue ($5 paid on site to Sean Cooper or Jim Butler). Basic ration to include hardtack or soft bread, slab bacon, coffee, dried fruit.
Company Drill.
Brief March being planned.
Camps are to be period correct (shelter tents or no tents) and no modern anachronisms.

History and Campaigns
Colonel Henry A. Barnum received authority, August 28, 1862, to recruit this regiment in the then 22d Senatorial District of the State; it was organized at Syracuse and there mustered in the United States service for three years September 17-18, 1862. June 10, 1865, the men not to be mustered out with the regiment were transferred to the 102d Infantry.
The companies were recruited principally: A, B, C and D at Syracuse; E at Syracuse, Pompey, Onondaga and Geddes; F at Manlius, Dewitt and Fabius; G at Syracuse, Skaneateles, Van Buren, Lysander, Elbridge and Manlius; H at Syracuse, Brewerton, Cicero and Centerville; I at Syracuse, Otisco and Fabius; and K at Syracuse, Baldwinsville and Tully.
The regiment left the State September 23, 1862; it served in Casey's Division, defenses of Washington, from September 26, 1862; in the 3d Brigade, 2d Division, 12th Corps, from September 30, 1862; in the 3d Brigade, 2d Division, 20 th Corps, from April, 1864; and, commanded by Col. Nicholas Grumbach, it was honorably discharged and mustered out June 12, 1865, near Bladensburg, Md.
During its service the regiment lost by death, killed in action, 5 officers, 77 enlisted men; of wounds received in action, 47 enlisted men; of disease and other causes, 79 enlisted men; total, 5 officers, 204 enlisted men; aggregate, 209; of whom 7 enlisted men died in the hands of the enemy; and it took part in the following engagements, etc.:
• Near Ripon, Va. November 9, 1862--no loss.
• Charleston, W. Va. December 2, 1862--no loss.
• Chancellorsville, Va. May 1-3, 1863--2 officers and 28 enlisted men killed; 7 enlisted men mortally wounded; 5 officers and 56 enlisted men wounded but recovered; 2 officers and 86 enlisted men missing.
o United States Ford, May 4, 1863--1 enlisted man killed.
• Gettysburg, Pa. July 1-3, 1863--7 enlisted men killed; 5 enlisted men mortally wounded; 3 officers and 38 enlisted men wounded but recovered; 2 enlisted men missing.
• Wauhatchie, Tenn. October 28-29, 1863--1 enlisted man killed; 2 enlisted men mortally wounded; 1 officer and 9 enlisted men wounded but recovered.
• Chattanooga and Rossville Campaign, Tenn. November 23-27, 1863-- during entire campaign (engagement not specified) were: 8 officers and 48 enlisted men wounded but recovered.
o Lookout Mountain, November 24, 1863--1 officer and 7 enlisted men killed; 4 enlisted men mortally wounded.
o Missionary Ridge, November 25, 1863--no one killed or mortally wounded.
o Ringgold Gap, November 27, 1863--2 enlisted men killed; 4 enlisted men mortally wounded.
• Atlanta Campaign, Ga. May 3 - September 2, 1864
o Rocky Faced Ridge, May 8-10, 1864--no loss.
o Resaca, May 14-15, 1864--4 enlisted men mortally wounded; 26 enlisted men wounded but recovered.
o Dallas, May 25 - June 4, 1864--5 enlisted men killed; 7 enlisted men mortally wounded; 3 officers and 30 enlisted men wounded but recovered.
o Kenesaw Mountain, June 9 - July 2, 1864--during entire battle (engagement not specified) were: 30 enlisted men wounded but recovered.
 Pine Mountain, June 14, 1864--no one killed or mortally wounded.
 Lost Mountain, June 15, 1864--3 enlisted men killed.
 Golgotha, June 16-17, 1864--2 enlisted men killed; 2 enlisted men mortally wounded.
 Culp's Farm, June 22, 1864--no one killed or mortally wounded.

o Crossing of Peach Tree Creek, July 19, 1864--1 enlisted man killed.

• Campaign of the Carolinas, January 26 - April 26, 1865--during entire campaign (engagement not specified) were: 3 enlisted men missing.

In the celebrated Atlanta campaign, under General Sherman, the One hundred and forty-ninth participated in several engagements, and met with severe losses at Resaca, New Hope Church, Pine Mountain, Lost Mountain, Kenesaw Mountain, and at Peach Tree Creek. For more than three months it was never out of the sound of firearms, and was under fire almost constantly. At the battle of Resaca, it was the proud privilege of the regiment to take a very material part in the capture of the four guns, so often spoken of in connection with that engagement, the men of the regiment for several hours being so close to the pieces as to be able to touch them with their muskets. At New Hope Church the losses were very heavy, but not more so than at Peach Tree Creek, where nearly half of the men present for duty were shot down in their tracks. Among the killed in the latter engagement were Lieut. Col. Chas. B. Randall and Capt. David J. Lindsey.
