Default why not cs gunboat sailors

    Justin,
To do an authentic bluewater confederate sailor would be a stretch. Why not go with the crew of a western gunboat such as the Arkansas or one of the rams at the Memphis action, the Atlanta at Mobile Bay, The sailors at Saylor Creek and Drewrys Bluff would be a great naval infantry option. There are a number of USNLP sailors in the Indiana, Tenn, Illinois,Michigan area.

That is the primary direction we are taking this. We are working on a blue water event in the next few years, but more to come on that. Thank you though for the suggestions!

I was wondering if that boat of yours Justin was going to push you in a nautical direction. I'm game for some travel for a quality navy experience.

Will definitely be up in Mobile for that one. As far as Justin's boat, I'm talking about his modern one, but sooner or later it gets in your blood and you have to get old timey nautical....

Default Yup becomes that big hole in the water :)

Been there done that Ross. Spent 15 years in Uncle's Navy then learned to sail. Went from skiff's to 30 ft sail back to gunning skiffs. I will miss the Mobile event but will attend the Fort Knox Maine event. A couple topsail schooners and an amphibious assaul on the stone fort and the town of Bucksport across from it.

    Default I'm not authentic

    Bob,
At 6' and 290 pounds I wouldn't be accepted with any authentic unit. Now if I had your stature Of course one combat cruise would take me down to fighting trim again esp in one of those engine rooms LOL.

George, I wouldn't say you wouldn't be accepted. My infantry unit has several bigger framed gents and they are some of the most accurate and well educated living historians I know. Not everyone in the War was tiny like most people think. Being part of an "authentic" unit (none of us are authentic as we didn't fight in the War) is the attitude. Less is more. Correctly made items, made from documentation and examination of original items, i.e. clothing, leather items, tinware, etc. Anyone can be "authentic", but not if they don't want to be. It takes hard work, research and determination to attempt to be top notch.
