    Default Mason Dixon Casino Gettysburg

unfortunately we lost our first battle last night .... hope we are successful today....I have convince Steve Santarsiero to submit an amendment to put a buffer around the edge the GBurg property line....as you all know....it is a National Military Park...we could really use the phone calls today....from this point it will be chance and not a very good one to stop the Casino....

last night email on FB....the amendment has changed...just say Casino Free Buffer Zone...

VOTE FOR a Casino Free Buffer Zone around the Gettysburg National
    Military Park
Rep Steve Santarsiero (D, Bucks County) Amendment #A05118 .

    Long version......

    Please tell your Representative to
VOTE FOR a Casino Free Buffer Zone around the Gettysburg National
    Military Park
Rep Steve Santarsiero (D, Bucks County) Amendment #A05118 will be
introduced during today or tomorrow’s debate on Senate Bill 711 in
    the PA House of Representatives.

A Gettysburg area casino offends our heritage tourists. In one 2005
survey of 300 heritage tourists, 96% said they do not like the idea of
a casino in Gettysburg, and 53% said they would not return if one were
built. Since Gettysburg is the anchor attraction of Pa’s heritage
tourism, when you protect Gettysburg you also protect PA’s heritage
    tourism industry.
    PROTECT Gettysburg!

    Excerpt: Amendment #A05118
“Amend Bill, page 110, by inserting between lines 17 and 18
    (b) Location.--
    (1) No Category 3 license shall be located by the board
within 15 linear miles of another licensed facility or within
15 linear miles of Gettysburg National Military Park.”

I am moving this to the "Battlefield Preservation" conference/section, since this is regarding preservation of Gettysburg.

DeputyClerk, forgive me if I've stepped on your toes, since this is your "beat" . . LOL .

Just as an insight here, folks, stopping it this time will be tough. State legislators passed a budget that is known to be $400 million short in revenue. They are desperate to make it up, and are legalizing full games of chance at existing slots casinos, plus getting huge fees from licensing new sites, as much as $50 million just in fees before the casino even gets a permit. The stakes are nothing more or less than the re-election chances of most of the legislature, because if they have to raise the sales tax or do something else to make up that $400 million shortfall, they know they'll be voted out no matter how fast they tap dance.

Even with all that, they expect to shut down many of the state's historic sites to reduce costs.

This is one of the most messed up states, from government point of view, I've ever seen.

Have you checked out my home state of Maryland lately? I am just glad that I moved outside of the City of Baltimore! Love the town, Love the State--hate the politics!

"Grumpy" posted that exact thing several weeks ago, pretty much. I fear this is going to happen. Notice you don't see the Gettysburg Foundation or the NPS saying ANYTHING at all. PA, the Gettysburg Foundation and the NPS all need the revenue this will generate.

And Bill, look what Rendell did to Philadelphia before he left. All his pals got rich and the city got all fouled up. Same old same old. Our state government has in IQ in the negatives. Not quite as bad as Jersey but getting closer.

And notice, this isn't in ANY of the major news media.

This is the same state that has all the new Marcellus Shale Gas Exploration and Production and are not taxing the gas companies at the well head like most states do to help raise revenue. Somewhere someone is in the pocket of the gas exploration companies.

    Unhappy

I only caught part of the story during the last news break, on my radio here at work but, RUMOR has it this bill has passed the PA House and is on its way to the Senate.

Anyone else have something more substantial?

I've lived in New Jersey. Pennsylvania is worse.

    1. Once in a while they actually put corrupt politicians in jail. That just doesn't seem to happen here.

    2. When caught, corrupt politicians in New Jersey have the grace to look ashamed. In Pennsylvania they are merely indignant.
