After a long process and working out a deal, we now have a Ranch that has access to 200 horses that are guaranteed to safely handle mounted shooting, cannon fire, and saber fighting.
We the 7th Ohio Cavalry are serious in wanting to make a strong Union mounted unit. Heres the deal with the Soledad Canyon Guest Ranch. We will be able to use their horses for training and events for the civil War here in Southern California, you pay a small fee (Insurance and medical) to use the horses.
You will need to attend the Cavalry training course (8-10 days broken into weekends) at the ranch. The owner wants to make sure the horses are in good hands and are properly matched with the rider's level of experience (once matched up and trained you will use that horse).
Once you are confident and learn how to fight on horse back, and master the drills. You will then be allowed to use the horse at events (once again for a small weekend fee).
You can also buy the horse later (if you want), and keep the horse at the ranch; just pay a monthly boarding fee. (If you don't have a place to keep your horse).
The ranch will be our official Headquarters, where we will hold monthly meetings with lots of room for us to camp and train. (We have free access to the area and a large meadow tucked in a valley where we can also ride and drill).
We will also be allowed to perform western shows and mounted events at the ranches western town set on the weekends infront of visitors. Plus the owner knows producers and directors that might want to use us as extras in upcoming productions.
So if you are tired of walking, always wanted to be part of the mounted Cavalry, or just want to increase you're reenacting experience.
Come out and join us.
If you ever wanted to ride a horse, but couldn't find a place to learn or afford a horse here's your chance. However, you must be 18 years or older due to liability.
We are looking forward in having you as part of our unit.
