Default WTS Cavalry shell jackets, bayonets, swords, headgear

Cleaning out the closet of "why did I buy that" items, so noe it's your turn. I will send any additional pictures you would like. Buyer to pay shipping. Please keep in mind the swords will be large and heavy. I will be happy to provide a quote from carrier of your choice. Payment by money order or PayPal, but please include 3.5% to the total with shipping for PayPal use. I work during the days so will be answering emails at night in the order received. First “I’ll take it” gets the item.

Union Cavalry shell jacket by The Quartermaster Shop in Port Huron, Mi and so marked by the tag inside the pocket. Size 42R. Jacket seems to have had little use. Has a lining that has some dirt stains. Excellent jacket. Does need to be dry cleaned, as it seems to smell like smoke in the liner. Some light stains on the piping, but I do not see any repairs, tears, etc. All buttons have Waterbury backmark. $75.00.

Well-used Union cavalry shell jacket but still has lots of life left. I would say it’s a 36. Length down the back from the top of the collar is 25.” Great for a late war impression as it appears to have spent a few years campaigning. Buttons are Waterbury marked, although I do not believe them to be wartime period. I am guessing this is also Quartermaster Shop by the button backmark, but there is no maker indicated inside. No liner in the jacket. $40.00

Union Cavalry kepi. Huge melon head size. I have a 241/4" and this one is a bit loose on me. Unfortunately, it’s been hanging for a while as indicated by the point in the back of the hat. The leather sweatband is stiff and is torn in the back (where hanging). I would recommend some Lexol to loosen up the leather, or use as a display/loaner. Has crossed sabre insignia on the top. $25.00

Union Cavalry officers slouch hat. Complete with metal cavalry insignia and officers hat cord. Leather sweatband. I believe it’s a 7 3/8 – 7 ½ measuring front to rear. It has a slight odor to it that I mention for accuracy. It may be cigarette smoke. It’s faint, but I do notice it. A few days in the field should “freshen” it up. $25.00

White cotton liners or drawers for the trousers. Measures about 30” in the waist. Single button on the waist, the crotch area is open, and the legs enclosed. I have not seen them like this before, but would be nice under the wool. The cuffs are hemmed with several pleats. $3.00

Black cloth belt (sash), I believe he used as a sword belt. Just plain black cloth hemmed with a slight design on the ends. About 9 feet long. $2.00

    SWORDS AND BAYONETS

Enfield leather bayonet scabbard. Seems to be new, but purchased used. $15.00

.45-70 trapdoor bayonet and scabbard. Scabbard is the brass hook pattern of 1885. Bayonet is nicely blued and marked US. Basically new with some slight rubbing from the scabbard. I didn’t realize these were being reproduced, but I am certain it’s not original. $45.00

Pattern 1860 cavalry sword and scabbard. This is new in the wrap. No markings but a faint India mark hat could be filled and ground out. It’s not an exact replica, but fairly close. Would be good for use to protect your nice blade. $45.00

Another cavalry sword and scabbard. This one has a fairly straight, heavy blade. Brass crossguard and leather wrapped grip. Copper wire braid. Much heavier blade that I suppose could represent a CS sword or import purchase. Again, meant to be used as this is not an exact replica. $40.00

Not necessarily, that brief of a description could be describing many pair of mens drawers depending on what he means my "open crotch".

Then again, after what I saw at Gettysburg this month, your thought is not out of the question.

That may be true, but a picture is worth a thousand words

From my research and viewing of the drawers the young lad is correct. The photos show both open crotch and buttocks, common with ladies under drawers, but I don't have a PhD in ladies nether garments, ha ha. Also pleated or decorative stitching bottom cuffs.

I'll have to do some checking, looks like they might be lady drawers. Hmm how'd they get in there?? Thanks for the replies, I'll get them listed over on the civilian forum.

The next question is whether or not your wife knows that you are selling her clothes? (At least I hope that they are your wife's.)
