15th US Infantry Impression Question

Hello, Can anyone point me in the direction of any grous doing an impression of the 15th US Infantry or at least give me some pointers on correct enlisted and NCO uniforms is there anything different about them or are they standard Federal?

Dave,

Start with page 477 of the Revised Regulations for the Army of the United States of 1861.

That is the standard for uniforms. Next you need to dig into some research on the 15th US Infantry. I would suggest the website of Sykes Regulars who portray the 2nd and 4th US Infantry. They have a bunch about US Regulars during the Civil War.

In General, the Sergeants and Corporals wore the same uniforms and accoutrements as Privates. The major difference was the wearing of chevrons on their coat sleeves and stripes on their trousers.

Sergeants did have a different belt plate for their waist belts and in the case of Sergeants Major and First Sergeants, you would see in the regulations and in practice the addition of a sash and sword.

I know there is photographic and first person evidence of Regulars doing everything from being 100% within regulations to being just like volunteers on campaign. In the end, you need to research the 15th US Infantry and its campaigns and what is documented though its history to get the accurate picture.

I would say, you would not go wrong following US Army Regulations for uniforms in the Field and in Garrison as closely as your finances allow.

Scott, thanks a bunch for the link, wealth of information there! I am pretty colse to being there already, would the cap insignia just be a hunters horn with a 15 in the middle? and the company letter above or below it?

Yup, the regimental number would be in the middle with the company letter above. And if you find numbers small enough to fit in the hunters horn let me know where
