    Default 1861 Springfield Miroku kit

    Gents,

In December I purchased "The last one" of Dixie Gun Works' 1861 Springfield rifle musket kits by Miroku of Japan. A bunch of these had been found in storage, and were made around 1990. An N-SSA member who owns serial number 9xx bought his in 1991. This gun is number 7xx.

Nothing has been done to the kit. The furniture is in the rough, and some parts, such as the band springs and rear sight require removal of casting remnants. The trigger guard plate needs to be bent a bit to match the contour of where it will sit. The lock is bright and assembled. Some final fitting and sanding is required on the stock for all parts, including barrel, to fit as they should. This is more than I had anticipated, and so I purchased a used one already built.

On the plus side, the gun's weight will be much closer to an original than any of the Italian repros, and the stock will not have those dark streaks running along the grain as many Italian repros do.

I'll hopefully get photos up this weekend. Asking $600 plus $35 UPS shipping.

    Thanks,
    Chris

On the springfield kit, I have built about ten of these.
