Default Looking for West Ohio events

We are an artillery unit based in East Central Indiana. But we are very short on events in our area. We are looking into Ohio for some good events. Can anyone help? Come on Buckeyes, lets see those events.

I don't know what types of events you are looking for, but those at Hale Farm, Bath Oh on Aug 8 & 9th and Zoar Village on Sept 19 & 20th are both good events. If you want further info on these please feel free to PM me.

    Default Western Ohio events

I belong to the sixth Ohio Infantry and here are some ideas!!

4 - Saturday May 15th - Sunday May 17th. Conner Prairie. This is a new event for the 6th OVI. We'll be joining Chad Greene and the Western Federal Blues for the event. With the WFB we'll get rations, do 1st person impressions including a pay call. Conner Prairie is located just northeast of Indianapolis and is a premiere living history location worth visiting anytime. Other than when special events occur like this Civil War event it's always 1836 in the village and their re-enactors never break first person. Visit this great location sometime with your family.
5 - Monday May 25th, 11am - approx 1:30pm. Spring Grove Memorial Day ceremony with the Sons of Union Veterans. Our yearly remembrance at the Civil War section of the cemetery for the olde boys who made the ultimate sacrifice; and our visit & roll call at Col. Anderson's grave site.
6 - Friday June 5th - Sunday June 7th. Battlefield trip to Stones River in Murfreesboro Tn. This will be a trip to the site where the 6th Ohio incurred their heaviest causalities of the war. The trip is for Friday through Sunday, but if you wish to visit other sites nearby such as Franklin, Nashville, Ft. Negley then you're encouraged to go down early on Thursday, or stay late through Monday. This trip be in modern civilian clothes. We'll do car pooling like we did for Gettysburg last year. Wives & children are welcome. We hope to get a private battlefield tour on Saturday and participate in a candlelight walk of the national cemetery that night. Look for more details as the time of the event approaches.
7 - Date to be determined. Living History at the Taft House. The Taft House, the childhood home of President Wm. H. Taft, is located just south of the Univ. of Cincinnati campus. From the time of his birth in 1857 until he embarked on a political career that would win him the two highest offices in the nation, Taft lived here surrounded by family and what his mother called "inspiration to everything that was good." This was a fun one-day event last year for the 6th OVI, and 2009 should be the same; plus we can use the event for local recruiting.
8 - Saturday Aug. 22nd - Sunday Aug. 23rd. Living History at Battery Hooper. Battery Hooper, one of the few remaining Civil War defensive positions left in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati, represents a time when the community came together in a crisis. In September of 1862 the battery was erected as part of an eight-mile defensive line from Ludlow to Fort Thomas to defend against the Confederate invasion of Kentucky. This living history event in 2008 was small but fun. There was plenty of opportunity to visit with the public and this should be another good event for local recruiting.
9 - Friday Sept. 18th - Sunday Sept. 20th. Zoar Village- Battle on the Ohio-Erie Canal. This is another new event for the 6th OVI. Zoar is located south of Canton Ohio. The event will have a battle each day. On Saturday after the battle there is a Period wedding and Ball. On Sunday before the battle is a Rounders game.

Non official event- Saturday May 2th and Sunday May 3rd. Ohio Civil War Collectors Show. Saturday 9 am - 5 pm, Sunday 9 am - 3 pm. Go on your own or with a group of guys from the unit. See and buy collectibles, books, get parts for your gun, etc. The show is at Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield, Ohio. Admission $5.
Non official event- Friday May 1st. Living history at Ockerman Middle School. This school program was suggested by Cpl. Tim Pieper. Ockerman school is located on US Hwy 42 in Florence KY. From I-75 south take exit180. Go south. The school is on the right side after approx. 1 & 1/2 miles. Camping with fire pits is allowed the night before. The program will begin as soon as the buses arrive at 7:00 AM. Anything program items we can do will be OK. Depending on numbers we can do firing demos, manual of arms, cooking, etc. Contact Tim Pieper for more details.
10 - Friday Oct. 2nd - 4th. Perryville. This was an excellent event last year when we fell in with the Western Federal Blues. We had excellent food, a pay call, period Sunday services and more. This year's event looks to be just as good. Perhaps we'll get another moonlight tour of the battlefield on Saturday evening.
    January - March
    April - June
    July - September
    October - December
11 - Veteran's Day. The date and location are to be determined. If you know of a parade or ceremony in your town or county in Central or Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky or Southeast Indiana that you think the 6th Ohio can participate in please contact Mike Davis.

Dwight beat me to it, I was going to post more events when I got home, I didn't have the dates in my head. Of the Ohio events Zoar is probbly the largest. I've never gone to it but everyone I spoke to about it had good things to say, you can get more info from their website, google Zoar village.
Hale Farm is like Conner Prarie, a historic village with very good living historians, battle both days. One of my favorites so far.
I also heard Perryville and Fremont are good events, but I've never been either to personally, but our unit usually goes to both.

If your looking for eastern Indiana events, there are a bunch of south east Michigan events also- right along the state Line.
May 22-24 Coldwater Mich (right off of 69) Iron Brigade came from here also steam train rides at the state line.
June 19-21 Hillsdale Mich Will Carlton Poor House again just off of 69 heading east.
August 28-30 25th anni. of Jackson Mich. Cascades Park on 94 .
    Sept 18-20 Zoar Ohio
Sept 24-26 Angola Ind. just east of 69 whole town gets involved. Fall Fest I believe.
It just depends on how far you want to drive. There are a few more in lower lower Michigan.

    Default Sad Truth

Having been a reenactor in Ohio for 15 years now, I have to say that Ohio has very few events left. And as it appears you are are looking for events to attend as artillery, your choices are very limited.
