If you haven't looked at the collections of information at the Library of Virginia, it might be a good source of pictures and rosters.

From my various research forays at the library, I seem to remember quite a bit of info being in there on the 23rd VA. I haven't been through the digitized stuff in sometime, so there may be a lot of new stuff available online.
