Default Patten's Cavalry Drill & Sabre Exercise reprint F/S

    Gents (& Ladies),

In clearing out the dark corners, I've unearthed a small stash of the Heartland House Press reprint of Patten’s Cavalry Drill & Sabre Exercise (1861). As you know, Patten’s is a condensed version of the 1841 Cavalry Tactics (aka “Poinsett’s”), the drill that the vast majority of Civil War cavalry on both sides used throughout the war. Patten’s has the distinction of being well illustrated, and it covers everything from “Instruction of Foot” through the “School of the Squadron.” This edition also includes Historical Notes by yours truly. 162 pages plus 6 pages of period advertisements (which were in the original).

BONUS: Having realized that George Patten left out some critical information, I carefully culled 47 pages of pertinent material directly from “Poinsett’s,” to include the manual of arms with the carbine. This is a very necessary companion volume to Patten’s, and provides the cavalry reenactor/interpreter everything he needs to know.

I am offering BOTH books here for $14 shipped while they last. If you don’t already have a copy, there’s no excuse now! At this price, you should pick up a few extra copies for Christmas gifts—this is one present that won’t be “re-gifted”!

TERMS: Money Order or PayPal only (contact me before using PayPal). Email me at adennichols[at]gmail[dot]com (please do not PM me). First come, first served, based on email time stamp. No “holds” please. I am not responsible for loss or damage in US Postal service.

    Happy trails, y'all!

"Josie," I believe your second attempt came through (Joe, right?). Don't know why it would've bounced--of course you've got to replace the stuff in the brackets with the appropriate symbols (Junk Mail Prevention 101).

For those who want to send a money order, please address it thus:

    Default Grumble...grumble...grumble

Hey, thanks for the address.....I have been a loyal supporter of the First since their infancy and will still find me listed as "Our Mentor" on their site. Their very impressive portrayal is dismounted with emphasis on Living History, local battles and headquarters staff.......they work well with Generals Lee, Stuart, Ewell and Jackson.....many fine events on their sheepskin......I am proud to be associated with these fine men and women. However, I ride with the 2nd VA Cavalry C Company out of Salem for over ten years...we do both cavalry and 6-horse hitch artillery w/3" Ordinance Rifle and 12 lb. Napolean. I have been blessed as wheel team driver and front line saberhead.....I have promised never ever to grow old ! I support my habit by being the "Desk Man" at www.logancreekdesigns.com ......

    Default The OTHER 1st Virginia...

    Joe,

Thanks for the info. Actually, I formed an authenticity-conscious mounted reenactment unit with the primary impression of "The Washington Mounted Rifles," Co. D, 1st Reg't. Virginia Cav'y., CSA, back in 1970(!). Units wax and wane over the years, and my 1st Virginia remained active (mostly doing interp) until just a few years ago. I spent a good deal of time tramping around Abingdon researching "Grumble" Jones and the boyos, and I assumed the personal impression of Lt. Rees B. Edmondson when appropriate. I am well acquainted with many of the troopers in Co. C of the 2nd Virginia from the "Big Lick" area for about the past two decades now. Does Michael Hickey ever throw his leg over a good 'un any more?

Aw, for the "good ol' days!" I concur wholeheartedly with your view regarding aging. My motto has long been: "Old enough to know better, young enough not to care!"
