Wink TO Perryville, or not to Perryville, that is the question

So is the collective hobby going to gather at P-Ville this year to reenact the very fine 2002 event? Will uniform standards be respected? Will bad impressions vanish from the event and not stain the honor of those hallowed fields? Will there be enough Federals? Who's complaining/campaigning? Will you be there?

I am going as Federal, I will shoot 20 rounds and then die, both days, unless someone needs a #4 cannoneer.

Default It will be just like last time I'm sure

Its a National Event so there will be plenty of everything you mentioned. Most of the campaigners are going as Federal. I signed up for the "CS hardcore living history" but I'm also hoping to take part in the battles. Of course October is far away and anything can happen to ruin my plans. The battlefield is awesome, so if you have never been to Pville I suggest some of you Easterners try giving up one of your routine fall events in favor of this one. Cav and Artillery seem to complain about this event, but Pville trys to make it as accurate as they can. Which means cav and art. have less "play time". Hope to see you there,

Default To each his own opinion

There will be an event. Beyond that, it's a matter of individual outlook and preference as to whether it will have been worth the effort.

Many will go and enjoy themselves. Some will go and bitch about everything and say, "I told you so!". Others will not go and do the same thing. Some will find both good and not so good points about it.

Each will take out of it what he/she put into it, modified by the attitude they brought to the event.

Personally, I'm going to have a very good event. I'll be with good friends, and intend to meet some more from these fora whom I've wanted to make aquaintance for some time. I'll be wearing (hopefully ) my new pair of Karen Timor custom-made socks. I'll be seeing a significant number of Eastern Feds who have made the effort to come West, partly because I support them by coming East. I'll be back on the field where my son and I first took the field as reenactors in '03. I'll get to interact as much as I wish with folks who want to know more about what they did then and why I do this now. If I get lucky, I'll interact with the civilians reenactors, maybe in more than one capacity.

Yup, I'm gonna have grand time. How 'bout you?

    Greg,

Go to Perryville. Enjoy the experience in the AoP. Ignore any "boogers" and relish the cameraderie around the campfire.

The NSA seems to be doing their best to improve after a perceived slide in standards. Either support them in the effort, make some constructive suggestions on the NSA board, keep the negative & snide comments on the OTB or refrain from posting flame bait.

    Default Perryville

I hope Perryville this year is better for Artillery than 02 I spent a lot of money
for the chance to shoot behind the barn a mile from the battle, Chad Green has calm the fear of a number of guns here in Kentucky and Tenn. in respect to us being involved. I have been going to Perryville since I was in the Boy Scouts and now I have my AARP card so you can imagine I like Perryville and hope to have a great time there this year.

    Doug,
I don't wish to sound like a know-it-all.I believe the reason the arty was placed a mile to the rear was to give it a more historical accurate feel to the general public. That's all.I do hope you get up to a better spot.

Can we make this post a sticky in bold? Well said Phil.

Greg - as far as I know the NSA is not planning on reenacting the 2002 event. Last I checked the goal was to reenact the 1862 event.

Unfortunately, no. The sticky option applies only to threads and not posts within the thread. Sorry.

However, parts or all of the pertinent parts of Phil's post could be incorporated into either yours or Phil's signatures.

Thank you gents. And to think I have been accused of being "mean-spirited, uncredentialed, uncultured and uneducated white trash".

Ha, ha! THAT couldn't be MORE true!!

I think Perryville '06 will be the best one yet. We are working hard to make it so, anyway!

After all, how many events are actually ON a REAL battlefield, and how many events that you pay to attend have the money actually going to PRESERVE that battlefield???

    Not many, for sure!

Come on out, folks. You'll love it.
