Default Events in Fla during sept..

    Hi list,
going to the house of the big mouse in Orlando and was just wondering if there anything historicaly related happening in Fla during the first two weeks of sept. Or if someone could suggest a good historical location for a day trip that would be nice as well.. If I have to listen to the "its a small world" too many times without an escape some large rodent or talking duck will die...
    thanks

There aren't any events of note during that time, but since you'll be near Orlando, its not a stretch to drive northeast a little to see St. Augustine. There you will find history to span a few hundred years, and of Civil War note you have the Castillo de san Marcos, the Spanish fort that became Fort Marion to the U.S. and played a roll in the 2nd Seminole War and the Civil War. There are also a couple of nice museums, including one dedicated to the Civil War there in town. A couple of hours from the House of Mouse and a further north of St. Augustine is Fort Clinch, located in Fernandina Beach. The fort is in remarkable shape and open for tours each day, and the first full weekend usually has a small garrison of Federal reenactors working in the fort. Ft. Clinch was a Third system masonry fort that construction began on before the CW and active work continued throughout. It was never quite finished, but it continued to serve on later during the Spanish American War and beyond.

Yes Sir there isn't any events going on thoughs weaks of Sept. But as for St Augustine, It's a very pretty town and has tons of history all over. I have been living in florida my hole life and have been only twice but have loved it every time. I suggest visiting the fort right there. Also across the bridge on the island there is a light house that has an amazing view from the top.
