Mostly they used boiled linseed oil. Rubbed generously on to the wood.

Phil they could have been. Maybe they had learned that if they boiled their water they would not get dysentery.

I am looking to buy a folding camp chair. I am looking for one that looks like a small directors chair.

The nice thing is we do a lot of Living History Encampments. So was planning on getting an A tent and fly. So that I could get a folding table and chair and build a Company field desk.

The black ones, if they are hard rubber are from a Berdan Sharpshooter. Are these originals?

Go to Regimental Quarter Master, they sell premade paper cartridges. All you need to do add the powder. Not hard to do, I make mine for my Sharps out of these.
