I was in the trench with the Michigan boys on the 10th Iowa's right. The Reb major fell right in front of me, his sword started to fall out so we help him back in. I didn't ask what unit he was.

It was told down the Union lines that it was called for unscripted hand-to-hand fighting by the Rebs on the Union left. I also heard that they wanted us out early for impending bad weather.
