Hi John!
I concur with Ryan's comments.

Hi John!

This whole thread was begun to invoke an argument. And, it is now closed.
For pills, tapioca pearls work fine ... just spritz them with food coloring ... but don't go bananas with the food coloring ... you don't want your quinine pills looking brighter than the sun, LOL!!!...
OK gentlemen ... let's play nice. There is absolutely NO reason to turn this into an "us vs. them" fight. Let's keep it "civil".
OK, moderator hat off.
In what form is the material ... is it by the yard, pieces, etc? Thank you!

Actually, the "norm" would be the plain staff straps (if we were 150 years ago ... the mass number of "MS" straps you see today is because they are over-represented in our hobby). As for the sword...
Yep! My first kit, I used the "MS" in the center of the shoulder straps. My current kit has the staff shoulder straps (no "MS"). The "MS" straps, like everything else, were Surgeon's choice. As a...
Try eBay ... but, make sure they're correct before buying them. Don't make the same mistakes I did with buying incorrect instruments through them.
For ceremonial purposes, there is nothing wrong with purchasing a Medical Services sword. Like I said above, their prices are about the same as a F&S sword so, I would chose the MS sword.
Surgeons, like any other officer, were required to purchase their own uniforms. And yes, there were cases where a Surgeon would draw issued uniform items from the Quartermaster. Regulations called...
Hi John!!
Are you looking for new or used? If new, may I suggest a couple of places to check out?
The first being, Ed Archer's site: http://civilwarmedbooks.com/medical.idc. You can purchase the...
Colonel Dave, EVERYONE will have a difference in command "style" (sorry, I left this off in my initial posting). In my 23 years in this hobby, I haven't been to many events that playout "by the...
I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but ..... http://www.perryvillebattlefield.org/html/visitors1.html
You're right David! Regs call for a lot of things. But they were not always followed to a "T". That's why I choose a typical Surgeon's impression. What I bring to an event, will usually fit into my...
I hope this helps some? As for photos ... there a ton out there. Braceface has quite a few ... there is also the National Archives, Old-Picture.com and the Library of Congress.
...
I, too, have seen quite a few references. I'm pretty sure that it is in reference to seniority. As per US Army regulations, 1861 ... when Surgeons were appointed, they were given the pay and...
Just sending out a reminder that, registration will close September 15th ... that's 3 weeks from today!!!
If there are any other medical folks that are planning on attending, please give...
Trevor, are you going? I may be coming out that way for this one!
Just wanted to send a friendly reminder to you medical folks that are planning on coming! September 15th is the deadline for registration. If you haven't registered, and are planning on coming ......
You know, I love visiting places like that, and making an effort to set the record straight. Leave history as it is . . don't try to pervert it with some granduer or illusion of the way "you" think...
Thank you Trevor! I hope you guys have fun down there. And, be safe! ;)
For you federal medical folks that are planning on attending the 150th Perryville, I will be heading up the Federal Medical Staff for the event, so please contact me through my email:...
