I know that ANV is not supporting the tactical on Thursday evening. Are there any other CSA units that will be participating that would be willing to let a couple others fall in?
I have not been to a GAC event in the past or done many tacticals so I am sort of looking forward to this one.

Come by Longstreet's Corp headquarters and I'll help you find out who is participating and find you a unit to fall in with.
I'll be setup by Wednesday morning. Just ask for Terry Shelton

What time is this supposed to start? I've heard a lot about it, but have seen no details. Anyone know the scoop?

I read somewhere the tactical is supposed to start at 7 PM Thursday, but I can't remember where. I'll keep checking, but it is in the evening.

Is this some political BS? I really hope not. These boycotts have a tendency to spread out of control and make everything really difficult for everybody.

I'll tell you what who ever misses the tactical will miss a great fight. Last years tactical was great and a powder burner there was fighting in a feild in the woods over and under fences and even in a farm yard. I'm sure this years will be just as great my Brigade that i command is looking forward to it. At this time it starts at 7pm so it should not be as hot and i think it will be a great time. I hope to see you all there both union and confederate.

I would need to remind everyone that there is a big difference between deciding not to support (i.e., form the established brigades and battalions with their respective chains of command) and holding an active boycott (i.e. instructing their commands to specifically not to attend). Since, as a unit commander, I have received no communications from my ANV chain of command not to attend the Thursday tactical, I am assuming that there is no "ANV boycott". Rather, I would suspect that the ANV chose not to require all their brigade and battalion commanders be present and prepared to field units for the Thursday tactical (i.e., not formally support the tactical). In other words, the ANV chose to make the tactical an optional battle for its members, units and commanders rather than an expected one. Considering the fact that Thursday is not a legal holiday for most folks, I personally support such an ANV decision as I would expect that many ANV members and commanders will not be arriving until late Thursday afternoon and into Thursday evening. I know that will be the case for me and most of my unit.

Thank you Tom. Absolutely not a boycott but they do recognize that it will be tough to coordinate. After all, not everybody is on summer break and can make the trip up whenever. :)

I will be down there early enough on Thursday to participate but cosidering that I will be up early driving 4 hours, set up in July heat so I'll probably just skip the Tactical

Hehehehe That sounds like something I may just have to take a shot at...literally. I'll have to keep a weather eye out for that nice hat as an aiming point. ;-)

I agree with that. I love seeing how good of targets those on horses really made back in the day.

Do any of you in the "loop" know when formations will start? Will it be the typical hurry up and wait (ie - form at 5:30, stand around for an hour and then move out)?

Patrick, Indeed the 7th Maryland will be in this fight. I talked to Col. Henson and he said whoever is there and wants to do it then they can fall in.

Lovely news - what would you guess is the best time to be on the field to participate?
Patrick

Thanks Tom, That sounds better and I am glad there is no boycott, though I will still miss an entire brigade of rebs to shoot at. Oh well, I'll have my chance later in the weekend!
This may sound like a dumb question, but forgive me, I am curious. Is there an actual wheatfield, or is it just the name of the scenario?

Well, you will still get a chance to shoot at the boys from ANV. I got an email saying that anyone wishing to participate should be present at a 3pm drill.
So looks like we are scrapping together a provisional unit after all. Just won't be a whole brigade.

Spoonie,
Don't make us Federals have to Guard Against Cavalry Again!
By the way if you are up on Tuesday, why don't you come on over and help us put up the Evergreen Cemetery Arch on the battle site.

I should be arriving on tuesday morning around or about 9:30am or so. I'll set up my living facilities and i'll be over to help with the cemetery arch but if i help i get first pick on where i'll be buried when i die!!! and hey i think we looked pretty impressive when we guarded against cavalry a perfect square and nothing got by and i was tucked away nicely in the middle lol

I had to laugh at the fellow who suggested that with today's grain prices that someone would plant a field full of wheat in order to have it trampled.
Would you buy a tanker truck of gas just to blow it up?
LOL

I'm taking that as a "no" :)
