Looking for CS unit in Southern California

Hi - my husband and I are newer to the hobby and are looking for Confederate units in the Los Angeles area. Something in-between mainstream and progressive, so that we won't get too made fun of or shunned for our beginner ignorance, but also a unit that is interested in presenting authentic history to the public.

I guess we're looking for a "family unit", meaning that I would like to enjoy the hobby along with my husband. You can give me a role, like a cook or a laundress, or tell me to stay out of camp during the day, or even let me pretend to be a soldier (I'll do a good impression, I promise!). We're a younger couple and don't have any kids yet, but it'd be nice to find someplace that welcomed them for when we do.

Because we are new to this, we don't know everything there is to know about the Civil War, and would love a group that could help direct us and teach us period behaviors, activities, drills, etc.

Does anyone know any groups that might seem to fit us? And if you have info like unit websites, or email addresses, that'd be great too! :)

Go to the American Civil War Society (ACWS) website at http://www.acws.net/. They are a SOCAL organization with progressive/mainstream units.

Yes, I know I know about acws.net, and while they have a list of units, they don't have contact information for any of them or anything about what the units themselves are like.

That's why I was kind of hoping someone on this site could help too. :)

I'd suggest posting on West Coast Campaigner.

I'd also suggest if you can eventually get enough good authentics together, do a Los Angeles Mounted Rifles impression. I know a sutler who could help with impression(uniform, etc) when that time comes.
It is hard, but try to go for authentic impressions linked to the southwest. I live in AZ and most(read 99%) of Confederates are doing an eastern theatre impression. There are good Confederate impressions in LA though, even for eastern impressions, if that is your desire.

If you and your husband dont mind being seperated during events I know of a couple of groups for you. One is an authentic progressive minded civilian outfit and the other is a Confederate infantry unit that is C/P/H.
