I am trying to put together leathers for my uniform. I am trying to find out if the cartridge box for a carbine would have the lead filled US plate mounted on it like the early musket cartridge box does. And does it get a breast plate al;so

Ok.

No, Chances are that the actual soldiers wouldn't have been issued a lead filled box plate for a Carbine box. I haven't seen any pics to the contrary.

No sling should be used with a carbine box (unless otherwise documented) as they were ment to be hung from the cavalrymans belt, along with their other trappings.

PPGs 204-205 EOG: US shows 7 Federal Carbine Boxes, one of them mounted on a saber belt. Of the 7, only one is mounted with a box plate. Was this added by a soldier during the war? May be. Is it a postwar addition? Perhaps. But it would indicate, that only one in 7 examples shown bear a plate, that it would not be that common. IMHO I would go sans plate. Also, the previous statement about a breast plate is accurate.
