The original 83rd Pennsylvania Volunteers were a brave group of patriots hailing from the northwest corner of Pennsylvania. As the war progressed, they would lose more men to death than all but one other Federal regiment. By the time the Army of the Potomac reached Gettysburg in July of 1863, the 83d numbered under 250 men and was commanded by a captain. They helped to open the battle of the Wilderness, and were present in Appomattox to witness the surrender of Gordon's men in April, 1865. Finally in July of 1865, the men of the 83d were mustered out of Federal service in Washington, DC. Because of this we are proud to reenact Co K, 83rd Pennsylvania Volunteers.
The reenacted 83rd Pennsylvania Volunteers is a authentic-minded unit recruiting members in the South Central PA area. We for are looking for both military and civilian members. The 83rd has been in existence since 1993. We attend living histories, preservation marches, first person events, and reenactments mostly in the Mid Atlantic area.
We are proud members of the Potomac Legion, a battalion-level Civil War living history organization, dedicated to a campaigner-oriented, research-based impression.
