Nick Duvall is starting to make English accutraments.I am not sure if he makes boxes yet,but he does make some stuff.I also believe EJ Thomas also makes them, but I'm not 100% postive.
Best bet is with Tim Welch. He sells decent cart. boxes. You may with to try him.

I have an Enfield box made by Tim Welch. I absolutely love it. It is a thing of beauty. They aren't cheap but they are worth every penny. Check him out at www.ldhaning.com

In terms of authenticity and craftsmanship I must agree with the above post concerning Tim Welch (LD Haning). I recently purchased an english box from him, which is not only dead-on to the two I have viewed at the Atlanta History Center, but his craftsmanship is beyond reproach. Nick Duval is also starting to make them but I do not believe he has them available yet. To my knowledge MO Boot and Shoe does not offer them in their usual canon of products. Tim Welch would be your best authenticity and craftsmanship choice at this point I think.

I second Nick Duvall...you will not find a better box out there...additionally Nick not only makes the English Cartridge Box, but also; the English Ball Bag, Cap Pouch, Bayonet Scabbards, Snake-Buckle Waist-belt...etc.

I bought leathers from Provisional Supply this year and I am pleased with what I got. The owners were very prompt at responding to my order and were very nice people to deal with. My unit has purchested from them for a while and we are always happy. http://www.provisionalsupply.com/

I ordered from Nick Duvall. I also spoke with him.He seems to be a really helpful and good guy. I know the wait will be worth it. It will be great when he releases his enfield type cartridge boxes.

I have leather gear from both Tim Welch and Nick Duvall. Both are great but to me Nick Duvalls work is a little better. Look at both peoples work but I'm going to reccomend Duvall Leatherwork.

I'd go with either one of the vendors, personally. I own some of both vendors' work, and it's all superb. Both make only researched articles, by hand, with period craftsmanship not equaled in the hobby. What more could you ask for? Nick's work just takes a little longer than Tim's, and that's the only thing different, but both are excellent as far as quality and workmanship. Just my .02 (and it may not be worth that. LOL).

I can't believe thier name hasn't be mentioned but C&D Jarnagan has a extremely nice enfield box.I also have federal CS Storms box from LD Haning,no complaints here on either one.I would recomend jarnagans enfield box.

There will be a review of British accoutrements in an upcoming "Watchdog" (in Camp Chase Gazette) along with a few recommendations on Enfield cartridge boxes. Yes, the Jarnagin box is highly recommended. It is interesting how many are recommending Duvall Leatherworks when they do not currently offer a British pattern of 1859 Enfield box. I will be happy to look one of his over when they are available, but the C & D Jarnagin Enfield box will take the Pepsi challenge with anything out there at the moment.

The Enfield box is labor intensive to make the right way, but using one in the field that is made properly is a real pleasure. The workmanship on the Jarnagin box I have in hand is outstanding.

Craig,

The cartridge boxes made by Provisional Supply have been mentioned in an earlier post. I have physically seen and held some of the leather accoutrements that PS have manufactured. They looked really nice to me. (and my untrained eye ) I have also held a cartridge box from E.J Thomas and was almost shaking when I picked it up. I had heard all the great things about E.J Thomas' goods and had I had the money at the time I would have snatched that puppy up.Now, I am in no way trying to compare the two Vendors wares to each other, rather to show that ,short of doing exhaustive research on the period construction of CW cartridge boxes myself, all I have to go on is the opinion of others, whom I consider knowledgeable of this particular material culture.

Anyhoo, I remember reading a Watchdog article awhile back where you reviewed the PS box as well as their cap pouch. You gave it high marks in relationship to it's price tag. In your last post I noticed you did not comment on the PS box aforementioned and was just wondering if maybe you had a different opinion of it now, than at the time the Watchdog article was released?

Sorry if this seems like I am putting you on the spot, it is not my intention.I just was not sure how to word this question, and I have looked to the Watchdog for relieable reviews for a long time. Feel free to PM me if you would rather.

Thanks for your time and response,
Your Servant,

It wasn't until after scrolling through the previous posts again, I realized that we're talking about the English version of the 58.caliber box and what I was thinking of was the Springfield box. (since that's what I carry) Well...DUH!

As I don't have that particular copy of the Watchdog close by at the moment, it's very well possible that it was the domestic version that was reviewed.

My apologies for using up valuable bandwidth...

Not a problem. The English accoutrements would be very rare among Federal (Ohio) troops anyway. You are better served with a set of US pattern accoutrements. For about the same money Provisional Supply Company offers a much better box than those "made in Pakistan" accoutrements, too. There is also a Pakistani British Enfield box that sells for about $35, and it is poorly made with poor historical feature accuracy. We have to compare apples to apples though. None of these compare well with Jarnagin's Enfield box or any of the US boxes from EJ Thomas. And the Jarnagin box is $192 (with sling).

I have an EJ Thomas .69 US 1839 box, and as you point out they are outstanding, however (just like Duvall Leatherworks) EJT does not offer a British Enfield box at this time. I already have dibs on the first one Bill Lomas makes. The British box should be used with other British accoutrements, and these are most appropriate for a Confederate impression unless portraying on of the Massachusetts units that were documented as receiving British accoutrement sets in 1861. I think there were 10,000 sets...but that pales in comparison to the 2 million + US pattern accoutrement sets made domestically between 1861-1865.
