Hello everyone, I'm rather curious to know just how much time one spends on their hobby, either daily, weekly, or monthly. For instance, for those of you who have to outfit a family, or go in for fine hand finished details, do you take time to sew daily? And how much time do you spend on research/ reading? (And I'm not considering the amount of time that we spend reading forums) Your thoughts please?

Myself, I spend a few hours daily sewing, and at least an hour or two reading. It's just become a regular part of my daily habit, yet I wondered if others felt the same way.

On average a couple of hours of research a day are spent spooning brain food into my cerebrum. Mostly it consists of reading various primary sources which are most applicable towards whatever event is coming up next. Plus other reading to plump out said research with details and useless trivia to add a a half-inch-thick layer of versimillitude to my impression.

2-3 hours per day and about every other weekend

Hello Judith,

I'd concur. Because our impression deals with such a specific niche and because we're backed by our real positions as museum professionals, our curator and I did our research over a period of six years before ever going public. Despite the work to date, I'm still amazed by how much we don't know as revealed by the public's questions regarding death and undertaking. Right now, we're in a mode of perfecting the presentation and personas by delving deeper into sources and the lives of the men we portray. Noah's comment about spending the most time with period sources, fits us, as well. Time for fabrication varies widely depending upon what we need to enrich the display and to open the visitors' minds to further discussion regarding a sensitive but universal topic.

I try to get in a minimum of an hour a day of reading. If I have a project I'm working on that requires hand sewing, I may sacrifice some reading time to get it done

I try to do some sewing each day, although not necessarily Civil War related - depends on which era of history I am currently obsessed with! :)
