08:00 PM Crucifixion:
"Throughout history, crucifixion has been one of the cruelest and most excruciating ways to die. Approximately 500 years before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Persian King Darius crucified political opponents and both Alexander the Great and Caligula used crucifixion as a means of punishment and entertainment. Watch as a team of forensic experts reconstruct a 2000-year-old body using the only physical evidence of a crucifixion ever discovered. Modern day footage will show real crucifixions that take place in the Philippines. Recreations will be used along with extensive CGI animation and CSI forensic-style graphics to illustrate the different types of crucifixion techniques throughout history and how it eventually kills its victim."

I saw those Philipine crucifixions. No one actually dies. It's just a bunch of extremely "devoted" Roman Catholics that get tied to crosses and then have nails driven through their palms. Yikes!

Two hours of "living" and CGI recreations of various forms of crucifixiion. I'm not squeamish. I like the HC weapons demonstrations but this show was just wrong. I turned to something else but checked back to see if it got better. Nope. Who asked for this show? 10 year olds who blow up frogs with M-80s?

I stopped watching HC a long time ago. There is little of value on that channel any more. Ghost Hunters? Ufo files? WTH?

I was hoping for an Easter related show as I like the history behind the Bible stories. HC has been good for those programs. Maybe I missed them and just caught the torture porn show.

As I said, I'm not squeamish as I was watching all the Sam Raimi Evil Dead series on DVD earlier this week.

What got me was the "Behind the Davinci Code" BS they were spouting Easter day.

I mean, don't get me wrong - I'm not a devoted Roman Catholic, and I thought some of the shows stuff was cool - but to show it on Easter Sunday of all days? Talk about the ultimate blasphemy! If I was more devoted I would be pissed off.

That dang movie was while back and I didn't like it. Now my wife is a "Shiite Catholic" but she liked the book. HC is milking the Code stuff 'til it moos!

I never really understood all the fervor over The Da Vinci Code. It was really just a poor re-hashing of Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh's theories which have been around for decades. Baigent and Leigh's "Priory of Sion" was pretty much debunked, but still, it was more interesting reading than The Da Vinci Code.

Evan3MD
03-25-2008, 01:22 AM
What I don't understand Is why so many people would latch on to the Davinci Code written 2000 years after the events, instead of the Bible and the writings of the various saints written 30-300 years after the event.

It's because people want "proof" that will allow them to deny what really happened and then to continue living in sin.

Well it clearly states on the book "A Novel " failing that I enjoyed the book on that premise...and discovered that even IF!!!!! the story were true...what could it really do to 'faith' afterall?? is it believeable that humans within a religious structure seaking ultimate power would LIE TO PEOPLE for their own ends?? COMPLETELY BELIEVEABLE!!! ( thou brood of vipers?)..after all..all we need do is look to our OWN GOVERNMENT for that answer! Try being a CCD teacher of grades 7-8 after somenting like this is broadcast!
DaVinci Code, Passion of the Christ, Bloody snuff "documentaries", but it was on TV!!!! it must be real. Maybe we'll use the old 50's Bible films as a better tool for teaching! Ben Hur, 10 Commandments, the Robe, sooo many more.....

Do you want to rethink that ?

You do realize you purport to honor US soldiers from times past right ?

PETA itself has questions on the validity of your video. Read your article. The USMC investigated. But rather than give a US Marine the benefit of the doubt you put if out as some indication that our men and women are savages. Nice.

As far as gleefully watching videos of actual people, even our enemies, dying.......count me out.

Saying one thing and doing another...where have Americans heard this recently from folks like you and your want-to-be leaders ?

Doesn't seem to bother you to go over in detail, commenting on photos of bloated and decaying CS corpses now does it ? Shall I point out the threads ? I guess that doesn't prop up your ameriKKKa bad position or is not quite the effective merge onto the high road from slamming our soldiers.

I am as yeller dog as the next Southron.... but keep up the fanatical, extremist, God **** AmeriKKKa stuff up and millions like me will continue to fall farther and farther from the "peoples party".

Geeze Chris, I only represent myself and I admitted the video might be a prank. A SICK prank. You have to take my word that anyone posting here, including me, already has some informed patriotism going beyond bumper stickers, flagpins and talking points. Too bad the present administration turned American symbols into Kitsch and made great words like Patriot, Liberty, Freedom into irony. I've been alive in the US of A for 56 years and I've never heard it called the "Homeland." That's a Nazi or Communist word.

Check back on all the comments about the dead Confederate's uniform, NOBODY was gleefull, just respectfully trying to learn something. That's the nature or historical research. All the photos and artifacts are of or from dead folks.

I'll post a funny or informational video or photo but not ones with killing in it.

Mental note and a few words to the Howard Dean non-Kool aid drinkers:

Remember this thread among many other things when you cast your ballot in November.

Remember your sons, fathers, daughters, mothers, wives, husbands, pards doing their duty in harms way, honorably, see them painted as puppy killers or twisted in anyway to further an agenda....

Remember how when asked to be strong in your beliefs but please tone the soldier slamming down the response is....

Nazis...America and its government are Nazi's, not uttered once but twice in two threads in retort...Nazis.

Then witness an educator, who is teaching your kids in publicly funded schools come on an applaud this rhetoric. Not hey "its a pretty bad situation over there but cut those in service a break"...."Not hey we are alot of things, most of it not very good..but we're pretty far from Nazi's, at least today"...

Nope.

Bad soldiers
Nazi America
Fatherland (google the song lyrics mentioned, that is some pro-US stuff there.)

Cue Extremist Applause in 4,3,2,1.

Almost makes Rev. Wright seem tame.......

I must confess, I love the way you don't let a bunch of pesky facts get in the way of your tirade. Still, it may be helpful for your audience if you could point oput the part where Scott called our troops Nazis. And don't be too concerned if you can't actually find such a quote - just make stuff up - you seem to be pretty comfortable with that.

Perfect. Right out of the playbook

Cut extremist applause and cue scemantics....in 4.3.2.1

A lot of folks, good hard working, plain ol' American family folks are going to read this thread.. blue dawgs, yeller dawgs, libertarians they too can read between the lines...they know the spirit. So please spare us.

Now how can we leave this alone on a positive note...?

Can we agree that our troops are by far fine men and women doing an honorable job in spite of the fact I am sure many, as I, question why ?

and that we got some warts but Nazis we are not ?

Or shall we continue to banter about ? Cause I can go spray paint some protest signs in my garage.

Well once again Chris you managed to avoid taking responsibility for your character assasinations without giving a shred of evidence for them. Well done. Talk about right out of the playbook. There was never one iota of besmirchment given toward our gallant troops (but then you knew that). Nobody called anybody a Nazi. So please spare us.

Though I dont doubt your ability as his mouthpiece.

Maybe SBL could illuminate on his puppy / Marine post spirit ?

Not disagreeing with the thread you started at all...Valid points were made, but somehow your thread got hijacked, and the vitriol started flying... just trying to bring things back into what we have in common, not what divides us.

This subject has nothing to do with the Civil War.

Jeff,
So you think it should have been in the whine cellar cause I really want to know what you think. Look back on my past contributions to "Discuss books, films & videos related to the Civil War era" and you might allow me a "freebie" about the History Channel.

Having just read through the entire thread, and for the first time, I would offer the following:

We have drifted quite a ways off the original subject, and something tells me that it may now be somewhat difficult to return to it. Tempers have flared, and whether one feels it justified or not, we are still sitting around Mr. Szabo's dining table, along with any number of other folk seated around us.

Sometimes, as good guests, we need to back away from a subject when it becomes too controversial for the setting, and seek other lines of discussion, if only to not discomfit the other guests.

So I ask you, Good Gentlemen, shall we now seek more affable discussion upon other subjects?

ejazzyjeff

The subject was about History Channel Crucifixion show, which I thought was an interesting post, because I wasn't aware about the show. Then almost by the second page, it's changed to Nazi and Communist, the USA "Homeland", and our current administation. What does this have to due to crucifixion beside personal opinions.

Fatherland - Danke, Adolf!

Motherland - Spasiba, Tovarich Iosef!

US - No Childland Left Behind?

I'm a total idiot because I still cannot figure out how people can take politics seriously anymore. I'm too stupid for subtlety.

Every now and then History comes down off the Fringe Platform and makes an attempt to put out a documentary which might have something to do with history. Too bad I missed the crucifixion episode; I am sure it would have been interesting, because I got into a discussion with some fellows on the accuracy behind some of the contemporary crucifixion sculptures.

Like a film set in an historical setting - the movie may not always be accurate, but it's a good movie if I am hooked enough to read up on it further.

"Too bad I missed the crucifixion episode; I am sure it would have been interesting, because I got into a discussion with some fellows on the accuracy behind some of the contemporary crucifixion sculptures."

Now I've seen some war documentaries where live subjects were dressed up in period uniforms and kits and put on treadmills to see how they'd react. The subjects were serving UK enlisted men. The Crucifixtion 2 Hour show had some college student subjects simulate being crucified under supervision.

I think it was this Doctor.....

"Performed several hundred suspensions with volunteers on a very accurate cross where electronic blood oxygen levels ( blood gases, ear oximetry) blood pressures, stress EKG changes, respiratory gas measurements, visual measurements, strain gauge measurements ( to determine pull on the hands) utilizing state of the art medical and scientific equipment."

"The expertise of the forensic pathologist is essential in both criminal and civil proceedings regarding time of death, pain and suffering, bullet trajectories, wounds, determining pre-mortem versus postmortem wounds, post-mortem movement of a body from another location, instrument type consistent with a particular injury as well as a multitude of other issues.

So I guess it's OK.
