I was reading Tom Kelly's Sept. 1998 article Sweet little Sixteen and he mentioned "The iron work all needed cleaning, which was accomplished in a oil bath, where it soaked for a couple of weeks." now what I want to know is what oil did he use and what are the specifics to this operation. I have a similar musket to the one he mentioned in his article and it would be nice to clean the metal up without going at it with sandpaper. If anyone knows any specifics to this method that would be great.

I did but I figured since the last article was in 2002 that he probably wouldn't be involved on that sight anymore and if he still is I was hoping for a quicker response from all of the guys over here

So you didn't try to contact him and don't know if he's still there. I'm trying to make the point that going straight to the source is often the best thing to do.
