for Repairs only. While this is most likely outdated, I found it on another board and wanted to share.

Confederate White House closing for repairs

From NBC12 News

The White House of the Confederacy will soon close for two months while crews work on restoring the museum in downtown Richmond. The executive mansion of Confederacy President Jefferson Davis will be closed in January and February.

During that time, the museum will get new carpets, draperies and a new fire-suppression system. The museum will reopen for daily tours in March.

I haven't been there since the 90s. I did enjoy the tour and the exhibits at the MOC.

Sadly, I had no idea till I began Reenacting, that it even existed. :( So, my plan is to visit this Spring. I can't wait.

I've lived in this area now for 9 yrs and not once considered spending time in Richmond for any historical value add.

Whew! When I saw the title my first thought was "OH S**T! They're gonna turn it into a halfway house for crack addicts from the ghetto!" I'm glad it is only a remodel though. Had me concerned for a moment there.

If any didnt know, museum of the confederacy, and the confederate whit ehouse while not run by the best, needs visits and support. They have talked actively about moving, dividing up museum etc. what they need to do is move the med center stuff and make it a historic district. .

Bo, my deep apologies. I didn't mean to scare you or anything. I used the same title I first saw the article with.

Yes, there has been much talk of closing the Confederate White House and the Museum all together. I've read several stories over the past year about it. It's sad to see a Community and Local Government let a HUGE portion of their History and Heritage close. :(

As soon as it re-opens, I'll be visiting and trying to take a bunch of friends with me.

Thats quite alright M'Dear. No appologies are necessary. If I lived closer I would be there often. Supporting our heritage is getting harder as those PC folks get more numerous and we get fewer.

Here in Mo. one of our state rep's. is trying again to get a bill through to restore the Stars and Bars and Missourah battle flag to our two greatest Confederate historical sites. I am going to post more on this in the proper thread when all the details are in.

I was very disappointed when I first visited the WHoC. I expected to see Jeff's petticoats on display but they aren't there.

As a former Richmond citizen, I have to say that the City Govt. really has NO interest in preserving it's history or heritage. Given the choice between the MOC/WHoC vs the Med Center, (and the value of the land that both the Museum and the white house sits on for development), the dollar value will win over the historical appreciation everytime.

I've looked at the size of the Med Center there and seeing the way that the building is, once the MoC is moved, the only thing that I can honestly think of that they can do with the land is to make a parking lot out of it.

Don't forget to see the Virginia House in Richmond. Go to the Virginia Historical Society to find the hours. The Valentine Museum and the Marshall House (both on the same hill) are also worth seeing. You can get a City Pass to visit the latter two and the MoC at the same time. Park at the Hospital lot (free on weekends) and on weekdays you can get the parking stub stamped at the MoC for free parking on weekdays.
