I hope that you gentlemen will excuse me for posting this thread here but I am inclined to make sure that those who knew and respected Jim Lammers of Cedar Creek Supply Depot were aware of his passing. Jim passed away today of an apparent heart attack. I do not have funeral arrangement information yet but I will post it as soon as it becomes available to me. Please remember Linda and her family in your prayers during their time of need.

I am greatly saddened to learn this. Jim and Linda were always a friendly face at any event they did and his leather goods were a great value for the money. I still have my Cedar Creek Supply Depot bootees which wear like iron. Most everything Jim sold was made in America and a lot of it in his own shop.
The hobby just lost one of the truly great field merchants. He will be well remembered.

I got this news last night and I am really sorry to hear about Jim's passing. He was always one of the nicest guys on sutler row. I was just talking to him last week about about the upcoming Chickamauga event.
Most reenactors are unaware that while we are competitors on sutler row, we also act like a nomadic family. We set up together on Wednesday or Thursday before you get there, and don't leave until Sunday night or Monday after you've left. We do more events together as a 'unit' than most reenactors do. We have most of our meals together either before you are awake, during your battles or after you've gone to bed.
Sulters have thrown birthday parties for my son. We've helped each other in storms when all the tents have gone down. We've shared resources and we've redirected customers to other vendors when we're out of stock on something.
Jim was a good guy and will be greatly missed in our sutler row family.

It was with great sadness I learned of the passing of Jim. He was one of the most honest and kind person's on sutler row. He made quality goods that will be worn by many for years to come. Jim was a very likable fellow, great sense of humor (needed to be a sutler), family man and a caring individual.
He was also a fellow Detroit Tiger fan. He and his wife Linda were always a pleasure to be around. We will miss him, God Bless .

I am deeply saddened to hear this. Jim was one of the "good guys" in this hobby, and I could always count on being able to hang out and talk shop anytime, and Linda is also one of the dearest people I know. He was one of the few to take the time to not only make a decent reproduction, but he made it affordable for so many reenactors to upgrade their impressions and themselves through his work. Please keep his wife Linda in your prayers.

Agree, I know Ross does a variety of campaigner events and has said he has never been turned away because of his Cedar Creek Supply Depot bootees or accoutrements. Now, he no doubt has been turned away for his other conduct, or that dead animal he has glued to his chin, but we won't get into that here.
Like Ross (and many others) I have a pair of Lammer's bootees, as well as a cartridge box and scabbard. Each will take the Pepsi challenge with products costing 50% more. Jim was a fair and honest businessman, well liked and will be missed. In addition, his workmanship was excellent. Jim stood for a good US made product at a fair price and what a great legacy that is to leave.

This is very sad news. Whenever I bought from Jim, he was always courteous, had great customer service, and a good sense of humor.

I got the news from Linda last night around 8:30. Knowing Jim on an extremely personally level really made the news twice as hard to bear for me. He taught me everything that I needed to know about sewing and leather working. I would help set up shop at events with him and Linda and would travel with them a lot. They treated me like I was one of their own kids. I now have a great void in my life now knowing that one of my dearest and closest friends has passed. Working with Jim, either in his shop or out at an event, was a moment in my life that I will never let go of. I will greatly miss Jim!

It is my understanding that Jim's children were in the process of learning how to turn out the quality goods we all know and love. I was told tonight that the family has agreed that they will continue the business in the memory of Jim and what he meant to the reenacting world.

I also posted on the Common Ground Forum. Jim was a friend and I am truly going to miss him. Tell Linda she and her family are in my and Lori's parayers and that if we can do anything at all to let us know. I don't want to call her now as I am sure she has more on her plate than any human should and phone calls would not be appropriate today. I did send her an e-mail so she can get back in touch when and if she wishes.
I just saw them a couple of weeks ago at Brooksville and Linda was an absolute dear to come around and warn the rest of us sutlers that there was a huge storm coming. The sutler coordinator also did a fantastic job so please understand this was not a slight at him, he went out of his way to help us also. Because of her early warning I was able to protect all my merchandise before the storm hit, especially important to me since I don't use a "sutler tent" but a wall tent and fly. Jim seemed to be the picture of health and was his usual spry self. I guess this goes to show we should be thankfull for each and every day we spend with our loved ones.
Godspeed Jim!

True, I spoke to Linda Lammers and her 4 adult kids at the Funeral Service last evening. Cedar Creek Supply Depot will not be going to events, as she and Jim did, but she and the kids will continue the business. The kids can produce almost everything Jim made, as they helped him produce the goods in the past. I think cartridge boxes might be the only thing only Jim made, because of the sewing technique used.
Also, those interested please note the details on the Enfield raffle on the other thread.

Tickets are being printed up this morning and I already have about a dozen emails and messages for multiple tkts. If you want in, do it sooner rather than later. The defarbed Enfield is being donated so that all proceeds can go to the Lammers family.

Friends,
Burrough's Battery had the distinct honor of participating in the funeral procession. We conveyed the casket from the entrance of the Veterans cemetary to the Pavilion on our Caisson pulled by White horses. The Procession was led by Ben Bennett Playing bagpipes, then the Caisson with the flag draped casket, Pall bearers in uniform, riderless horse and then a procession of friends in uniform following.
We were greatly honored to extend this honor to a man that hs done so much for our hobby. To me it was moving when our procession halted and the pall bearers were moving the casket, We (the past) saluted, then the modern day honor guard (the present) presented arms just afterward, almost as if the past and present met to honor Jim together.
Our thoughts and payers continue to be with the family.
Respectfully,
Steve Cameron

On behalf of my family, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your thoughts, prayers and support during this past week. It was wonderful to feel the love from all of you and meant so much to all of us that dad was so loved by so many. Your contributions to the burial yesterday was just wonderful. The whole family commented many times how much dad would have loved it. We were honored. Thank you so much! I know I don't need to ask, but please continue to keep the family, and especially mom in your prayers.
With much love,

Tina, your father was respected and admired by many of us here, and more importantly, he was loved. That love will continue to you and your family, especially Linda, and you will be in our prayers. We could fill 100 pages with posts of stories, incidents, and random acts of humor and kindness from your father, and I regret not being able to come up and convey that in person. Everytime I look at a piece of Civil War leather, I will think of Jim, and everytime I go on sutler's row anywhere I will regret that I won't be able to pop my head into the tent and ask, "Do you have any Civil War things for sale?", my little inside joke with Jim.
