WASHINGTON CROSSING, N.J. (Dec. 25) - This George Washington could not make it across the Delaware River. Ronald Rinaldi III was prepared to play the role of the military leader whose daring Christmas crossing led to a rout of British-led forces and revived the downtrodden Continental forces........"

I've always wanted to do that event. Weather can play havoc with features like that. I remember when they used to do the rivercrossing portion of the Fredericksburg event. Took a lot of safety personnel and precautions. Looked cool, though.

I live about 20 minutes from this re-enactment. I also wanted to go but never had the chance. I came extreamly close to going this year but I had to work. Its a good thing I didn't go I guess; I would have froze out there just to see George Washington get swept away.

IIRC, they've had a lot of problems with the crossing part of the event over the years. Fortunately, the Trenton raid was arguably the most critical fight of the Revolution, and certainly the most romantic, so it will keep being done. I'd like to do it sometime, even if I had to march over the bridge, then the rest of the way to Trenton. Our battalion served the winter of 1776-1777 with the Continental Army, then went home without seeing action of any kind. I wonder what they thought of the foul-weather patriots who stuck with George that night.

Ahhh That Stinks!!!
I am originally from Yardley, just a few minutes up the road and that was a standard Christmas Day event for us to go see. The only time I recall them not doing it, was when the river was TOO frozen to cross safely.

I remember one year the river was too low for the boats and they walked across on the rocks. :) My Mom & Dad used to live in Yardley during WWII, but I'm not sure how close to the park.

I was just asked the other day if I was there and got stuck in the boat. Had to do a quick history lesson!!
