Oh, that was good! 1776 (um... the real one) has always been one of my favorites. The Declaration as a musical? A strange idea, but a fun movie.

R. Welker, Have you seen the restored DVD version of 1776?

A couple more songs, one removed at President Nixon's "suggestion." It also has a few deleted scenes with a commentery tract.

I'm not sure... I forget which copy of the DVD i have. I know that my copy has 'Cool, Considerate Men' on it, is it that one?

'Cool, Considerate Men'

That's the song. I heard it when my college put on 1776 but missed it in the movie back in 70s. Nixon didn't like it according to the commentary and back then I used to draw Nixon as a Redcoat. :)

Say...didn't I post this in films and books?

" 1776" is my favorite musical. "Molassas to Rum to Slaves" gives me chills whenever I hear it! Around our house during the summer, it's common to hear someone languidly croon "Someone oughta o----pen up a win---dow" :D

I have a history obsessed friend with a tendancy to run his mouth... we've taken to singing "would someone shut that man up?" at him, to which (having now seen the play) he replies "Never!"

A bad memory.

One of the guys in my dorm got the part in the musical so we knew some of the songs. We didn't know he was under some personal stresse. We were joking with him when We sang out his name and that he was "..Obnoxious and disliked, that can not be denied..."

He had a breakdown later that day.

Marc,

It must be from the "Robot Chicken" show. CN does that when people post clips for their shows.

Ouch! My friend, fortunately, finds it hysterical.

A local theater group did "1776" a few years ago here. By the last performance, John Adams had nearly lost his voice and his "is anybody there? Does anybody care?" was more of an impassioned stage whisper than sung. It moved me to tears. I still think of that when I hear the soundtrack.
