View Full Version : Watch out for trailer jackers

:mad: One of our civilian members in Louisville, KY had their trailer full of Civil War goodies stolen from their drive way this weekend. They/we lost all out tents, silverware, plates/cups/bowls, etc. My take is that the thief/thieves wanted the trailer and not the contents. Fortunatly no one was hurt, other than the hurt feekings of being robbed. All of our toys can be replace eventually.

Just keep on the look out for trailer theives. Watch where you leave your trailer. This was stolen from a driveway in a subdivision.

I thought I read somewhere in the 21st century press about a lock of some kind that went on the end of the trailer, it covered up where the ball of the hitch would go - or maybe even placed a lock across the lower end of the hitch.

Does anyone remember this and may possibly have information on where to get it?

There is indeed such a device. It has a key, and it does work. My husband got one for our trailer. You probably can find one at an auto parts store, or places that sell trailers and/or camping gear.

My DH just brought it upstairs so I could try to describe it:

There is a key which is uded first. The lock then slide onto the part of the trailer hitch that goes onto the ball. Then an Allen wrench type thing can be screw up from the bottom which makes it impossible to hitch the trailer up to anything.

His is a Masterlock Co #33. His is mucho many years old, so the same one may not be available anymore, but there undoubtedly are locks made currently.

Yes, the tongue was locked with a stainless steel lock that the jerks cut off. The owner is deployed in Iraq and his wife the civilian was on a Cub Scout trip with her son.
