just got a jean kepi yesterday, stiff as a board and made real funny. the top is alot broader than the middle, and the bottom is almost 1" thick!! the chin strap is made of brittle leather, but guess what....i like it! the only problem i have had so far is with size. in baseball caps, i wear a 7 3/8, in kepi size, i guess thats 30 inches!! mine is way to big, so today i ordered another, after measuring my gourd head for the umpteenth time! anyone else have this problem. i know its better to have the maker measure your head, but since i am buying all mine online, its up to me. also, a few years ago i had a very very sharp kepi i got off ebay. it was made from the finest material i have ever seen, i would almost say jean cloth, but i am not sure if that is it. i have done countless searches for this material and have come up empty handed each time. also, whats the preference for ya'll, regular kepi or forage"bummer"??

I prefer a hat. Living in the Cal. desert and AZ all my life kepi's leave the tops of my ears burned!. That being said, I like the bummer. I have a yankee McDowell bummer and a red top, blue band Reb forage cap. It may not fit into every war time period, but to my eye, it sure looks sharp.

Well....a hats where its at. Kepis and Fatigue Caps just dont keep the rain off, or the sun outta your eyes and off your neck and ears. Used em both, Prefer the hat.
