I was at an event this weekend and was told of an outfit in El Paso called El Paso Boot & Shoe, or something of that nature. I'd like to look at their brogans. I cannot find them on the web. Can anyone help?
Many thanks,
Scott Jackson

The shoes appear to be of a very low quality, especially for $70, I'd stick with Robert Land,MB&S, or Cedar Creek for decent shoes.
Y'all need to lighten up on the moderation, no need for the JBT tactics, jeeez.

too bad they dont make Civil War boots and shoes. Though, the spy shoes would be perfect for your Belle Boyd impression.

Everyone mocking fellow reenactors should be ashamed of yourselves. The man never said he wanted to purchase these shoes, he just wanted to see them.

On a topical note: I've seen a couple CABoots products in reenacting use, one being the cavalry boots, the other the brogans, and to be honest I thought they look just fine.
The corporal of the group I'm with has the cavalry boots and he loves them. Based on that, I'm probably going to get a pair of shotgun boots from CA Boots.

Moderator Hat: Mr.'s LaFrance and Davis, as per Mr. Davis's advice to me, let's lighten up and drop the minor p*ssing contest that is starting to develop. Okay.
Definately, I think we all may have over reacted a wee bit!!!
My appologies Mr. Lafrance.

Judging by the pics on their site, that is some thin looking leather on the brogans. maybe their boots are OK, but I really don't like the look of those brogans.

Much obliged. We do have our standards, they're public and been around a long time now. If you'd like to discuss them, please contact me or post to me in the New Users forum.

Who was mocking a reenactor? The fellow asked opinions on reproduction footware. Based upon original shoes I have examined and the many photos of shoes I have reviewed, the "Civil War" shoes offered by this particular vendor do not have the appearance of Civil War shoes. If you want to wear those things, go right ahead. If you ask my opinion of them, I will tell you that these shoes are not Civil War shoes. The Belle Boyd boot statement was not mockery, it was a joke. Lighten up. It appears that you and the French gentleman are the ones picking a fight.

I believe sir, that this discussion was ended a while ago, and now it would be you who is picking a fight. I was stating that the man clearly just wanted to see the brogans, he in no way claimed he was interested in purchasing them.

A while ago was last night, and I have the right to defend myself. Im not picking a fight. I understand that he did not state he was interested in purchasing these items. I never made a statement to the contrary.
You still havent explained how I was mocking him. To the gentleman who started this thread, if you feel I was mocking you please come forward and say so, and I will apologize to you, as that was not the intent of the post. If you were not offended and did not feel mocked, I would like those persons who came to your defense to apologize to me for making false accusations.

Moderator Hat: Gentlemen, once again, let's cool down before making any more posts. This thread started with someone merely asking whether or not anyone had a link for a brogan maker in El Paso so that he could get more information about their brogans. This is a very legitimate query for this conference and I would hate to have to close this thread because we apparently can not discuss such a simple question without individuals constantly getting into fights with each other.

I also apologize sir, as I did not read your posts more carefully. I just felt that it wasn't the right place and time to make comments about the quality of the boots, the gentlemen only came on here to get the website, not a review of how the boots look.

In defense of those who did make comments on the historical accuracy of the brogans, the original poster did state that he was looking for the website link because he'd "like to look at their brogans". IMHO, that did at least partially open the door for others' opinions on the quality of the brogans.

I see it like this: another reenactor asked for help finding information on some company that makes boots and brogans in El Paso. I did a quick search, found CA Boots and put up the link. Question asked, answered, done.
Then someone said to himself, "Hey, I can be cute here, mock these farbs and cover myself in hardcore glory!" No prob, that's what the mods are for. Personally, Tom, I wouldn't have said anything to the guy, I'd have simply deleted the post and anything else that looked like it.
But as it happened, he had to go and push his luck by defying Tom and daring the other what-he-ignorantly-considers-to-be-farbs to a micturation contest. As I've mentioned before, I love whittling a sharp stick and poking it into a monkey's cage just to see him dance. It is a great weakness and fault of which I'm not proud. In my own defense, I do try to resist it. I apologize for failing to resist it in this case.

Thank you for that last poke with the sharp stick, Mr Frenchie. My PC must be broken, as apparently more words (if FARB is a word) have been put into my mouth that I did not knowingly type on this site.
In respect of the folks that are somehow compelled to read this dribble, I will refrain from any other comment on this matter and spend my time on more important matters, such as saving caged monkeys.

I purchased a new pair of CABoots brogans off of eBay two seasons ago based solely on price (I didn't have much cash at the time). When they arrived the leather was very thick and very stiff but they seemed fairly well made. After two sessions of soaking in a bucket and wearing them wet until dry they started to break-in nicely. It took a few events for them to become comfortable, but after that they felt pretty good and now, after around a dozen events or so, are holding up quite well. Also, I did not install heel plates but the heels are still doing fine.
That said, they do not look to be the exact same brogans as what is being sold on their site now. My soles have a double row of pegs and it looks like the one's pictured have a single row.

Probably hundreds of thousands or even in the millions of shoes and youve seen how many?

There sure is a lot of crying going on in this post. Some of y'all need to grow a backbone!!!
So what's wrong with pointing someone in the right direction, and steering them away from a poor purchase? Isn't that one of the purposes of this, and the other forums??
Frenchie, this isn't your personal forum. Who the heck are you to tell other members when they can discuss something. Get a feakin' life dude. This thread was fine until you started crying like a two year old!!! Grow a pair!!!
Only on the net though right? ;)

I haven't seen them personally, but by looking at the picture they don't look that good of quality, but I could be wrong.

Cody, This isn't about the shoes. This is about an over inflated ego looking for the next ' us vs. them" post to jump on. None of my posts, or anyone else's has been along those lines. It was simply a knee jerk response to something that wasn't there to begin with. If it was about hardcorp chest thumping I certainly wouldn't have mentioned Cedar Creek as a source of quality shoes, as they arn't on the AC approved vendor list!!! :)
