Perhaps someone out there has some experience with these and can offer some advice. Last night I spent a couple hours reading Chisholm's Manual of Military Surgery 3rd Edition 1864 and he lists the contents of a regimental medicine chest and store chest. In the section on the medicine chest in addition to the quatity of the medicines he lists in which kind of vessel they are packed. So has anyone found any of the following to be available:

Tin with lid (capable of holding 1 lb of alum, simple cerate, camphor)

1 1/2 pint tin with cork

Tin with cover (capable of holding 1 lb bicarbonate of soda et al)

Half pint salt mouth bottle

Half pint glass stoppered tincture bottle

2 oz salt mouth bottle

Jar or tin box (capable of holding 1/2 lb blue mass etc...)

Thanks!

You could ask for custom jobs from Otter Creek Tinware. Be prepared to wait a while for service.

If you find another source for these containers let us know. We'd like em too.

Ok, The 1 1/2 pint tin with cork looks like it would be the Spirits Fermenti tin from Village Tinsmith. It comes to 1.89 pints which would be plenty of room for the fluids with a bit of room to spare. And this would be prefect for Castor Oil which should be stored out of the light.

This might pass for a half pint salt mouth bottle. Any comments?

This might pass for a 2oz salt mouth bottle. Any comments?

I think you want the narrow mouth glass stopper.

The ones I saw in Parrish's Intro to Practical Pharmacy had stoppers like this:

And your pagan website has them in 10 ml sizes. Perfect for all your portable med needs.

Here is page 52 from Parrish showing vials into which prescriptions were dispensed (in a civilian apothecary).

God bless the pagans. This could work as a laudanum bottle.

This could work for a laudanum prescription because it has the dropper as the cap.

Hello, patent medicine tins. (Scroll down some)

Thanks for the contribution, sir!

God bless the pagans.

Might they not take offense, sir? :D

I was actually looking at the two bottles I posted as being similar to the salt mouth bottle with mushroom stopper figure 2 on page 34 of Parrish.

Any thoughts?

They also have a 10oz bottle that, though slightly larger than the 8oz I am looking for might do for a glass stoppered tincture bottle.

Again any thoughts?

How does this look for a 1oz vial?

Looks like they fit the bill to me. But what do I know.
