A Pard of mine gave me a batch of 50 of these 5 in 1 plastics; however, I have never used them before! I was wondering If anyone can tell me how well they work for sound, smoke, and feeding in a Henry.

Drew,

I do not have a Henry but several of the lads in the unit do for out late-war Union impressions. I've seen them use both the plastic and brass rounds. The feeling I get from them is that the plastic seem to work alright but the preference is for the brass, I believe. The sound, smoke, etc is pretty much the same. The one big issue they seem to have with the plastic is that it can leave some plastic residue inside the weapon after a number of rounds are fired. This can be cleaned out but is the one thing I have heard them talk about. On the other side of the coin, I believe the brass rounds are more expensive. How much, I do not know. All of this info is second-hand from talk about the fire. Perhaps someone who has one will have more detailed info for you.

I think that you will be disappointed with the plastic blanks. The ones I am familiar with sound more like a cap going off and there isn’t any smoke. They can also get stuck in the chamber when the extractor rips through the plastic rim. Besides I thought that you were going to send me your carrier block and bolt so I could do the modification to it so you could use the .44 Mag. blanks.

I shoot these 44 mag blanks in my Henry, as well as my Sharps and Hankins carbine.. They work great.

If you are going to use the 5-1 blanks, single feed them, and have your pocket knife ready to 'extract' them..
