Hello-
I am searching for references to period wedding vows. I have found plenty of resources for period wedding ceremonies, dress, etc. but I am researching the vows in specific. One website stated that "traditional" vows were used, you know, the ones that still included the word "obey" in them. If there are references to anything other than those being used, I would like to be pointed in that direction. Primary source accounts are preferred, period secondary references are perfectly acceptable and if all else fails, modern websites and/or books that discuss Victorian era wedding vows. Thanks!

You might try looking for period church hymnals or clergy worship leadership books. Since most people were married by clergy resources like these would have the most widely used ones.
And I suspect that you won't find mauch variation in the vows, including the "obey" clause. Sorry.

Yes, I finally found the primary source information I needed in the Episcopalian 1789 Book of Common Prayer. Should have known to look there first!
