An Open Invitation

The Civil War Preservation Trust has formed a Civil War Reenactors Liaison Committee to try to garner support for the CWPTs mission of saving battlefields and raising awareness in the general public to the importance of saving our physical history. The committee is made up of two parts; a steering committee and regional representatives. The invited members of the steering committee were:

Mike Chapman
Doug Cooper
Eric Mink
Keith Bartsch
Matthew Rector

Folks who were asked to be regional representatives:

Eric Tipton
Kevin OBeirne
Matt Caldwell
Patrick Craddock
Chris Daley
Greg Starbuck
Robert Szabo
Stacey Hampton
Danny McCoslin
Jim Kindred
Frank Aufmuth
Rob Hodge
Joe McGill
Bob Denton
Don Ernsberger
Neill Rose

This relationship between re-enactors and the CWPT should be beneficial to both sides. Because of the geographical diversity of the potential membership, re-enactors would serve as CWPTs eyes and ears for possible land that is for sale on or around battlefields. We would also serve as volunteers around the country on behalf of the CWPT by attending meetings/hearings, writing letters, working at CWPT land, and raising funds through events. In return, CWPT would allow small living histories and events on their land and recognize re-enactors publicly.

Details on how things would happen are still being worked out, but it is our intention to get all re-enactors that are interested in helping preserve battlefields for future generations on board to make this a large network. We are inviting anyone who re-enacts to become a part of this organization. It is free to join the re-enactors committee, but we would encourage anyone who is a member to join the CWPT at any level. You can become a member for as little as $35/year at www.civilwar.org.

If you are interested in helping in this effort, we ask that you provide your name, unit affiliation, mailing address, email address and phone number(s) to Mike Chapman at:

We thank you in advance for giving us some consideration.

I've added a forum there for battlefield preservation. If this will help further the cause, we're glad to do it.
