On Thursday June 8th the Confederate Monument in Franklin County Va was destroyed by a drunk driver.

This is was one of those large monuments that dot Court House lawns all over the south, placed by UDC chapters around the turn of the century.

At this time the local UDC is saying it is beyond repair, but hope that some of the pieces could be used in a new monument. There is deffinite interest in replacing the monument. Presently the cost of a new monument is unknown.

Just thought I would put this out there, as when something like this happens it touches us all.

Presently the cost of a new monument is unknown.

Hopefully a judge will command the drunk to remand half his income to the UDC for life or until the cost is met, whichever comes first.

Pvt. Jackson,
we will be keeping a close watch on this. We need to help the UDC any way we can to restore the monument.
