Anyone interested in a 19th Century Violin/Fiddle to add to their impression? For awhile my children were all big into playing the violin and somehow I ended up buying more violins than we had players. It is time to downsize.

This violin was examined by Mr. Rosenbaum who is both a player for the Alabama Symphony and a violin expert. The following is what he told me. The violin is old, 19th century and probably Klingenthal. It's length is 13 5/8 making it a small full size violin. The top is 6 1/8 and the bottom 7 11/16. This size of violin is often called 7/8 size violin--on the smaller size of a full size violin. You just don't come across this size too much. It was also called a lady's violin--not because only women played it, but because the smaller size allowed for shorter arms.

It comes with the old case it was in when I bought it and also has a bow. The old case is wooden and is papered inside. Has a two hook and eye type latches and a metal handle. I think it would make a nice prop even if you don't play. Why buy one of those awful shiny chunks of wood made in China when you can have a real 19th century violin? It comes complete with that old instrument smell too!

I can send photos if you are interested.

I paid more for it, but I'll take $100 and shipping will be just what it costs me and will depend mostly on where you are located.

Thanks!
Georgiana

Could you tell me more about the condition of it? any cracks? The sound? I'm just squeeking along beginning to play. Thanks.

There are no cracks. The violin is in good condition. The last time I heard it played it was by my kids' violin teacher. As I remember, a loud bright sound. It's a good antique violin for a beginner. I have enclosed the pictures.
