View Full Version : 145th Battle of Philippi - June 2,3 & 4

04-03-2006, 08:45 PM
This year is the 145th Anniversary of the 1st land battle of the civil war in historic Philippi, WV. Though while the town has become a bit more modern in recent years, the noise and smoke while fighting through the original covered bridge is something to experience as well as an opportunity to do a little street fighting through the town. The town has lost 4 of its sons in the recent Sago WV Mine explosion so we're trying to put on a great show for them this year so we could use every man we can get Reb & Yank. Set up is on Friday, with a battle and night tactical on Saturday, and finishing up with "The Philippi Races" on Sunday. There are all sorts of things for the family to do between battles, as there are many food vendors, sutlers, crafts, blacksmith, a period ball and complimentary meal on Saturday night. Registration is only $10 before May 15th and it's $15 afterwards and for walk-ons. Alderson-Brodeus College also opens up a residence hall for anyone not wishing to stay in camp. Rooms are available for $12 a night and hold a MAX of 2 people, no charge for children under 12.
