Does anyone know a good way to make a suture card? I have silk suture, but it is currently on its original wooden spool which doesn't fit easily in my roll-up medical instrument bag. I've seen images (none that I can find as an example of course) of them in various publications and websites. They look sort of like flattened spools to me. However, I don't know any dimensions, the material of which they would have been made (paper or plastic ... er ... wood), what might have been written on them, etc.

James,
I'm not sure if this helps but, you may want to contact Ed Archer's company (the Bohemian Brigade Bookshop and Publishers (http://www.civilwarmedbooks.com/medical.idc)). I'm not sure if he has what you're looking for. But hey, give it a try. ;) Take care.

Jimmy,

Well, it seems to be included in various kits "Surgical Silk Suture Thread - Black - 1/4 oz, 6 YDS on Printed Paper Base" which tells me at least it was on a printed card, but doesn't actually give the size, shape of the card or what was printed. Thanks though.

By the way, weren't you supposed to send me some scanned labels?
